Learn more at https://www.jnj.com/medtech Job Summary: The Senior Manager of Embedded Software Engineering leads a team of engineers responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining embedded software systems. It is a coach and a player role that combines technical leadership with strategic oversight, ensuring that embedded solutions meet performance, reliability, and compliance standards across hardware platforms.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- 10+ years in embedded software development in medical device domain.
- 4+ years in a leadership or managerial role.
- Proven experience with embedded systems in consumer electronics, automotive, medical devices, or industrial applications.
- Strong proficiency in C/C++ and QNX operating system.
- Familiarity with software development tools (e.g., JAMA, Git, Jenkins, JIRA).
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- Experience with Agile methodologies and software lifecycle management.
Nice To Haves
- PMP, Scrum Master, or equivalent project management certifications.
- Domain-specific certifications (e.g., medical device software compliance, automotive safety standards).
Responsibilities
- Leadership & Strategy: Lead and mentor a team of embedded software engineers and/or engineering managers. Define team goals, development roadmaps, and performance metrics. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Align software development efforts with organizational objectives and product strategies.
- Technical Oversight: Guide architecture and design of embedded software systems using C/C++. Ensure integration with hardware components and communication protocols (SPI, I2C, UART, USB, etc.). Oversee software validation, verification, and compliance per IEC 62304 Drive adoption of best practices in version control, CI/CD, simulation, and debugging.
- Project & Process Management Manage multiple concurrent projects, balancing priorities and resources. Collaborate cross-functionally with hardware, QA, product, and operations teams. Ensure timely delivery of high-quality software within budget constraints. Maintain documentation and traceability for regulatory and quality audits.
- Talent Development Recruit, onboard, and develop engineering talent. Conduct performance reviews and career development planning. Promote knowledge sharing and technical training within the team.
