About The Position

Position Summary... What you'll do... Senior Manager, Data Science Agentic AI & Finance Innovation Walmart US Finance Data & Intelligence is hiring a Senior Manager of Data Science — and we’re not looking for someone to build dashboards. We’re building autonomous AI agents that research, reason, and respond — all on behalf of one of the world’s largest Finance organizations. Our flagship platform, Midnight AI, is a production-grade, multi-tier agentic system that monitors a shared mailbox, understands requests, orchestrates specialized sub-agents, queries enterprise data systems, and delivers insight-on-demand to Finance leadership — without a human in the loop. This is real. We need someone to help us push it further. Why This Role Exists Our Finance D&I organization is at the absolute forefront of domain-driven AI innovation. We’ve moved beyond proof-of-concepts — we operate a live agentic platform that partners directly with Finance Leadership to develop next-generation ways of working. We are fundamentally rethinking how a $650B enterprise makes decisions, and we’re doing it by building intelligent systems that compound knowledge over time. As a Senior Manager, you will help evolve this platform: designing new agents, hardening existing ones, expanding integrations, and ensuring our architecture scales as the organization leans in. What You’ll Actually Be Working On Agentic Architecture & Platform Development Own and extend a hierarchical multi-agent system built on Pydantic AI and Claude, featuring: Tier 1 — Email Orchestrator: Slim agent handling email I/O, attachment parsing (PDF, DOCX, XLSX with OCR), and response formatting. Tier 2 — Analytical Agent: Heavy-lifting research agent with direct access to BigQuery, Confluence, and web search. Tier 3 — Specialist Sub-Agents: Power BI (DAX generation & dimensional analysis), Code Analyst (sandboxed Python execution & chart generation), and Forecast Agent (Prophet-based time series). Design and build new sub-agents as the platform expands into new Finance domains. Evolve our 40+ AI tools spanning BigQuery, Power BI DAX, Confluence, web browsing, data export, geography mapping, and more. Maintain and improve our LLM-powered learning system — a feedback loop where the agent extracts knowledge from user interactions and applies it to future responses. AI-First Development This team practices AI-first development — we use AI to build AI. You’ll leverage tools like Code Puppy, Claude, and our own platform to accelerate your work. Prompt engineering at scale: Our agents use a modular prompt architecture with composable modules (identity, workflow, domain knowledge, security, verification checklists). Evaluate and integrate new models: We route across model tiers (Claude Opus, Sonnet, Haiku) based on task complexity. You’ll optimize this strategy as new models emerge. Build with guardrails: Responsible AI is non-negotiable. You’ll establish and enforce guardrails for LLM-generated outputs across Finance workflows. Finance Domain Partnership Partner directly with Finance Leadership to identify high-impact automation opportunities across Supply Chain, Operations, Merchandising, and Customer. Translate complex agentic capabilities into clear value propositions for executive stakeholders — you’ll need to speak both “transformer architecture” and “contribution profit.” Embed AI products into enterprise initiatives including Olympus and other transformational platforms. Drive the shift from manual commentary and ad-hoc analysis to insight-on-demand workflows powered by autonomous agents. Technical Toolkit AI – the only thing holding you back is time in your day. Python (you dream in it) and SQL (you query in your sleep). LLM frameworks: Experience with prompt engineering, tool-use patterns, and agent orchestration. Data platforms: Experience with BigQuery, Power BI, or comparable enterprise analytics tools is a strong plus. Domain & Business Insight Demonstrated success working at the intersection of data, finance, and operations. Comfort partnering with Finance stakeholders on P&L-critical use cases — you can hold your own in a room full of VPs. Collaboration & Influence Strong track record driving cross-functional initiatives with analysts, engineers, and business partners. Ability to translate deep technical work into executive-ready narratives. You’re energized by ambiguity and excited to define the playbook, not just follow one. Benefits & Location Competitive base salary + annual cash bonus + equity. 401(k) with company match, comprehensive health coverage, parental leave, and Walmart stock purchase plan. Bentonville, AR preferred (hybrid). Remote candidates considered for exceptional fit. Ready to Build the Future of Finance? We’re not just using AI — we’re building autonomous AI systems that partner with Finance Leadership to transform how the world’s largest retailer makes decisions.
