As a senior manager on our Global Communications team, you will lead and support in the implementation and measurement of high-impact, integrated communications plans across various disciplines within corporate communications, with a focus on reputation communications and the goal of protecting and elevating the Starbucks business and brand with all stakeholders. The ideal candidate has a passion for crisis communications with a drive to support and protect the brand. You are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment that will require collaboration across multiple business groups to develop communication strategies that drive engagement and builds audience. As a key leadership function within the organization, you will also be expected to provide timely strategic communications counsel to all levels, including senior leaders. Passion for and demonstrated success with media relations is a must, as this role is critical to serving as an advocate and defender of the company's reputation, with critical issues and crisis communications responsibilities. As a senior manager, external communications you will Lead Strategy & Planning: Develop and execute external communications strategies that support labor relations priorities and reinforce Starbucks commitment to partners. Create Clear, Human Messaging: Translate complex topics into simple, actionable communications that build trust and drive the external narrative. Partner Across Teams: Work closely with Labor Relations, Retail Communications, Legal, Social/Digital and Internal (Partner) Communications to ensure alignment and consistency across channels. Manage Media Relations Strategy and Execution: Drive proactive and reactive earned media opportunities from start to finish. Advise Leaders: Serve as a trusted communications counselor to senior leaders on labor topics, providing scenarios, options, and recommendations. Monitor & Respond: Keep your finger on the pulse of the external environment and ensure readiness to respond and adapt as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and a preferred minimum of 7 years of advanced experience in consulting and working with senior leaders in the design, development, and execution crisis, issues and labor relations communications strategies and initiatives.
  • Preferred minimum of 7 years leading a high-performing team and agency partners.
  • A solid understanding of labor relations and the communications needs required to support this function.
  • Experience establishing collaborative initiatives with multiple departments.
  • Demonstrated project management experience, providing effective oversight across the design, delivery, and outcome stages.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage time, prioritize tasks, work independently, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills, a proven track record of building strong collaborative relationships with senior stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

  • If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above.
  • For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.
