About The Position

Senior Manager, Commercial Data Science Do you love the art of using data to solve complex business problems? We do too – and would be excited to have you join our team at Walt Disney World! Our mission as part of the Commercial Strategy organization is to put our data assets to work, and apply quantitative techniques to discover previously unknown insights about our Guests and business. We work directly with the major decision-makers at Disney who shape the Walt Disney World experience. Through our insights, we help form and improve Disney products and offerings. This role is a combination of data science and engineering, with a strong application toward our Walt Disney World Commercial needs. The role supports a range of clients focused on revenue generation, strategy development, and customer experience who want to better predict and prescribe improvements to the overall Walt Disney World business. This role is looking for someone who is a strong leader, is curious and interested in challenging the status quo, has the technical background and expertise and who is excited about the opportunity to build new relationships across the company with the various client areas this team supports. A position like this puts you in the middle of the main commercial decisions of the company – and is a great way to showcase your data science skills!

Requirements

  • 10+ years experience in an analytical role (e.g., analytics, business intelligence, mathematics)
  • Experience leading an analytics team
  • Experience owning lifecycle of analytic products; from requirements gathering to data acquisition to presentation of results, and automation (where applicable)
  • Ability to draw inferences, quantify uncertainty and limitations of analysis
  • Time-management skills, with ability to prioritize multiple requests and communicate status to stakeholders
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python)
  • Advanced knowledge of relational databases
  • Knowledge of industry leading tools for data management and business intelligence (e.g., Hadoop, Snowflake, MicroStrategy, Tableau, Dataiku)
  • Required Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (e.g., statistics, mathematics, econometrics) with preference for advanced degree(s)

Responsibilities

  • Data Engineers: Build your own data curation pipelines into transformed sources to acquire and persist data efficiently. Your team keeps the DBAs happy.
  • Data Scientists: Research & prescribe techniques that support business problem-solving through data. You convert freeform ideas into structured solutions.
  • Analytic Consultants: Build relationships, develop connections, and listen to partners, demonstrating that you understand what insights will help them make better decisions. You speak math AND business.
  • Visualization Builders: Communicate through interactive visualizations that encourage undirected insight discovery. Your works of analytic art belong in a gallery and in the boardroom.
  • Coders: Be a team expert in Python coding as the team leverages Snowflake data platforms.
  • Advance the collective knowledge of the Commercial Strategy organization by developing techniques to measure the effect of business decisions on business results
  • Build / prototype analysis pipelines iteratively to provide insights at scale. Develop comprehensive understanding of Disney data structures and metrics, advocating for changes for product & pricing development and sales capabilities
  • Work with large, complex data sets. Solve difficult, non-routine analysis problems, applying advanced analytical methods and models
  • Conduct end-to-end analysis that includes data gathering and requirements specification, processing, analysis, and recommendations
  • Make recommendations with effective presentations and reports for stakeholders through visual displays of quantitative information
  • Document code, system architecture, and contribute to the Commercial Data Dictionary for any created KPIs
