About The Position

Under the direction of the CLMS Director, this position oversees the operations of consumer collections and recovery and is responsible for enhancing and proactively managing the operations, consumer collection, mortgage collection, loss mitigation and recovery programs. This position is also responsible for overseeing the independent monitoring, directing and enforcing of all applicable legal, regulatory and internal compliance policies and procedures across the division. The Assistant Director is also responsible for consulting with senior managers across the bank to ensure appropriate collection and recovery strategies are developed and implemented to maximize product profitability (low delinquency and high recovery rates) while respecting all borrowers and closely following the bank’s culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited institution with major in accounting, finance or related area, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 12 years of experience in progressively more responsible positions in mortgage banking, finance, business process improvement, project management and/or internal audit.
  • Requires a strong working knowledge of online sales and related technology, mortgage and related systems and processes, as well as a firm understanding of financial reporting standards, general ledger processing and other relevant matters.
  • Minimum 3 - 5 years of management/supervisory/leadership experience.
  • Minimum 3-5 years project management experience with significant roles in major process improvement or other division level projects.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and expertise with personal computers in a networked environment and Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint) or similar software.
  • Knowledge of or ability to use Bank software.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills and presentation skills.
  • Able to conduct formal meetings and presentations at all levels of management.
  • Must be analytical, detail oriented and organized with excellent problem solving skills in order to develop effective solutions that consider efficiency, internal controls, and impact to financial results.
  • Requires the ability to analyze large amounts of information and complex situations quickly, think strategically, make estimates and projections and exercise sound judgment.

  • Able to work flexible hours including holidays, weekends and evenings as needed.
  • Able to travel off-island if necessary.
  • As a Bank of Hawaii employee, you ensure (or assist with ensuring) compliance with applicable laws, regulations, regulatory requirements and Bank policies and procedures, including but not limited to those related to Fair Banking, Anti-Money Laundering laws and regulations, Bank Secrecy Act and USA PATRIOT Act.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, establishes, executes and communicates business processes, process improvements, and technology/systems and programs in support of the CLMS vision to increase capacity, effectiveness, and efficiency by applying industry best practices.
  • Ensures that strategy and programs deliver a high quality of customer service.
  • Discusses necessary revisions with Executive Management and insures appropriate changes are implemented to mitigate compliance, credit and operational risk.
  • Develops supporting tactical initiatives and project plans to implement the overall strategy and objectives.
  • Works with external vendors as needed.
  • Develops, maintains and monitors project plans and budgets.
  • Ensures completion of documents of understanding, including the detailed understanding of business unit requirements and project deliverables.
  • Identifies critical path and project milestones, and monitors performance.
  • Ensures documentation of project from planning to post-completion is complete.
  • Monitors portfolio trends.
  • Investigates, analyzes and reports on changing trends to prevent future losses.
  • Assists in the preparation of quarterly asset quality input and tracks delinquency and loss results and trends.
  • Compiles and analyzes statistical data relative to Unit productivity.
  • Assists in the creation and monitoring of department budget
  • Supervises the analysis, summary and communication of current regulatory and organizational compliance developments to executive management, and coordinate efforts to ensure policies, procedures, forms and training meet all new and amended requirements and deadlines.
  • Consults with legal counsel, regulatory agencies, vendors and compliance organizations, as needed.
  • Manages the development and coordination of procedures that cross interdepartmental functionality to assure an efficient workflow and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Oversees the implementation of changes to laws and regulations, policies and procedures as well as bank processes.
  • Responsible for the management of all division managers including staffing and scheduling, compensation, performance management, training and development, assigning and prioritizing work, coaching and evaluating performance, and corrective/disciplinary action.
  • Goal is to attract retain and motivate the team to achieve management business objectives and maintain a favorable employee relations climate.
  • Responsible for the timely and effective management of People Services forms and documents relevant to immediate staff.
  • Leads CLMS’ efforts on all audits and regulatory examinations, including advance preparation, coordination of all information between bank departments and examiners during the audit/exam, follow up on findings and development of written responses.
  • Develops and implements strategies for satisfactory or above ratings.
  • Performs all other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned.
