Position Summary: Illumina is expanding its reach into the clinical market with its innovative next generation sequencing platforms and assays and attracting partners across the industry. We are seeking a talented Senior Manager of Business Development, Clinical Partnerships to play a critical role in shaping and executing Illumina’s clinical partnering strategy. The role will be responsible for building out a clinical pipeline of partners and working closely with cross-functional teams to negotiate mutually beneficial agreements that are critical to expanding the reach of sequencing into the clinical markets. This role will be expected to work with leadership at global and team members in region to execute on the Illumina’s Clinical Partnering Strategy and to drive revenue growth through partnerships by. Must have the ability to navigate complex deal landscape. Changes to individual responsibilities may occur due to business needs and other related duties may be assigned. This is a full-time role, Monday through Friday, with an expectation of 2-3 in-office days per week and additional on-site presence as needed.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in business, life sciences, or a related field and a minimum 12 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Majority of experience with business development and/or significant partnering responsibilities
  • Industry experience with Next Generation Sequencing or equivalent experience in regulated industries is desired
  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally up to 10% of the time to support team collaboration, attend key business meetings, and engage with stakeholders across multiple locations. A valid passport is required and/or additional documentation (e.g., travel visas) may be necessary based on destination-specific requirements
  • Ability to think critically and strategically about clinical partnerships, applying conceptual problem solving in complex and ambiguous situations
  • Executive-level communication and presence, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and external partners
  • Demonstrated success negotiating complex partnerships while preserving trust and long-term relationships
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to guide outcomes in a matrixed organization
  • Deep understanding of clinical markets, regulatory considerations, and commercial dynamics

Responsibilities

  • Leads the evaluation of clinical partnership opportunities in conjunction with the clinical business to bring forth for approval. Areas of clinical partnerships can be in areas of Oncology, Genetic Disease Testing, Reproductive Health, Infectious Disease, Microbiology, etc.
  • Determine resource requirements to meet clinical partnering goals and provides direction and guidance to cross-functional teams and in region team members, ensuring alignment to strategic priorities and timely execution
  • Works on highly complex assignments of diverse scope in clinical where problem solving requires the analysis of data and a variety of relevant factors
  • Regularly evaluate and track the clinical partner portfolio to ensure optimal value and performance
  • Frequently interacts with senior management on matters concerning several functional areas, divisions and/or partners
  • Frequently advises team(s) on complex matters and provide recommendation in terms of budget, methods, and resourcing
  • Lead a cross-functional implementation teams while working internally with key stakeholders to drive partnership success
  • Provides leadership in the planning, designing, due diligence, and implementing of strategic business objectives
  • Identify and negotiate new partnerships and partnership expansion efforts, accountable for all aspects of opportunity assessment, partner engagement, due diligence, financial modeling, negotiation of business terms and deal closure
  • Ensures clinical partnering needs are communicated internally and addressed appropriately
  • Partners with key stakeholders to drive continuous improvement, identify new ideas for partnership expansion opportunities, and clinical partnering strategic initiatives that drive alliances
  • Disseminates key learnings and best practices to foster continuous improvement in Illumina’s partnering capabilities
  • Other duties as assigned
