About The Position

We are looking for a Senior Manager/ Associate Director, Commercial Assessment to strengthen our strategy team in our newly established Chicago office. Scope of the job As a Senior Manager/ Associate Director of Commercial Assessments, you will contribute to the commercial evaluation and recommendation for business development opportunities that support Galapagos’ portfolio building efforts. This is central to our mission as a small, nimble biotech seeking to deliver outsized shareholder value and patient benefit. You will design and execute analyses for specific deals, collaborate across functions, and inform high-stakes decision-making with data-driven insights. This is a hands-on, intellectually demanding role requiring strong industry fluency and business judgment. It will offer extensive exposure to executive management, opportunity for significant growth and learning, and unique ability to contribute to building the portfolio. In this function, you will report directly to the Vice President, Commercial Assessments.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the biopharma industry in roles including commercial assessment, new product planning, or market insights and research, or in the management consulting industry with experience in biopharma.
  • Strong analytical skills with substantial experience developing commercial forecast models and ability to independently manage complex evaluations in biopharma.
  • Understanding of drug development, revenue forecasting, commercial strategy & operations, and payer dynamics.
  • Familiarity with secondary data sources such as IQVIA, Evaluate, GlobalData, and epidemiological datasets.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on cross-functional projects in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented and a confident communicator comfortable interfacing with senior leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct deep-dive commercial assessments of licensing and M&A opportunities, including market sizing, competitive analysis, and revenue forecasting.
  • Build and maintain market and product revenue models to support deal valuation and risk assessment.
  • In the context of commercial evaluations, design, execute, and interpret primary research in major markets with key opinion leaders (KOLs), community physicians, payers, and (when appropriate) patients and caregivers.
  • Collaborate with external consultants and agencies to gather robust qualitative and quantitative insights.
  • As key input to corporate market intelligence efforts, map current and future competitors, including pipeline assets, launch timelines, and differentiation strategies.
  • Develop perspective on global commercial implications of different competitive product and company profiles.
  • Track regulatory and clinical milestones of key competitors.
  • Evaluate reimbursement dynamics, pricing benchmarks, and payer behavior in corporate priority disease states across major markets.
  • Identify risks and opportunities related to pricing, reimbursement, and market access.
  • Support internal portfolio reviews by analyzing commercial value under different development or market scenarios.
  • Profile and maintain knowledge bases and market models on key indication spaces within priority TAs, in collaboration with CBO (Chief Business Officer) team.
  • Participate in diligence teams and contribute to BD negotiations from a commercial standpoint.
  • Prepare high-quality materials for internal review, executive meetings, and board updates.
  • Summarize findings into clear, actionable insights.
  • Contribute to deep-dive commercial assessments of licensing and M&A opportunities, including market sizing, competitive analysis, and revenue forecasting.
  • Build and maintain commercial forecasting models, scenario analyses, and valuation frameworks to support portfolio prioritization and BD decisions.
  • Establish analytical tools and structured approaches to enhance rigor and consistency in commercial assessment processes.
  • Design and manage both primary and secondary market research to validate assumptions and assess opportunity attractiveness across key stakeholder groups (KOLs, community physicians, payers, and patients/ caregivers as appropriate).
  • Conduct secondary analytics to quantify market size, patient populations, competitive landscapes, and potential revenue opportunities.
  • Collaborate with external consultants and agencies to gather robust qualitative and quantitative insights managing budgets and timelines.
  • Map current and future competitors, including therapeutic or disease areas of interest tracking pipeline assets, launch timelines, clinical/ regulatory milestones, and differentiation strategies.
  • Develop perspective on global commercial implications of different competitive product and company profiles.
  • Evaluate reimbursement dynamics, pricing benchmarks, and payer behavior in corporate priority disease states across major markets.
  • Support internal portfolio reviews by analyzing commercial value under different development or market scenarios.
  • Profile and maintain knowledge bases and market models on key indication spaces within priority TAs, in collaboration with CBO (Chief Business Officer) team.
  • Partner on due diligence efforts for potential partnerships, collaborations, and in-licensing opportunities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional colleagues to align commercial, scientific, and financial perspectives.
  • Translate complex data into concise, actionable insights and recommendations for internal review, and senior leadership and Board-level discussions.
