About The Position

The Senior Manager, Architecture & Engineering leads architectural and design execution for new store development, ensuring alignment with prototype standards, rollout schedules, and cross-functional requirements. This role partners closely with Real Estate, Construction, Legal, and Format teams to deliver scalable, compliant, and cost-effective store designs. This position reports into the Sprouts Store Support Office in Phoenix, AZ.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related field required
  • 8–12+ years of experience in retail, grocery, or multi-site commercial development
  • Demonstrated experience managing prototype-driven programs and large-scale store rollouts
  • Strong working knowledge of fixture planning, signage, lease exhibits, and design standards
  • Proven ability to manage consultants, contracts, schedules, and project-level budgets
  • Excellent cross-functional communication skills with the ability to escalate and resolve issues effectively
  • Experience working in fast-paced, growth-oriented construction or development organizations
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of project management experience:
  • Within the real estate organization of a retailer or similar organization, or
  • Within a professional design/architecture firm, with demonstrated experience on retail or similar projects
  • Able to manage multiple priorities to adhere to tight timelines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to effectively manage third-party professional partner teams and collaborate with internal stakeholder teams to achieve desired results
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and BlueBeam Revu (or similar redlining tools); working knowledge of AutoCAD a plus
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills required - Ability to communicate with Developers, Real Estate, and Construction personnel through hand sketches, computer-assisted mark-ups or AutoCAD to translate design principles into unique and varied store locations
  • Highly knowledgeable of industry trends (furniture and finishes), building codes, including ADA and compliance issues
  • An energetic multitasker who can balance priorities while constantly paying attention to detail
  • A strong problem solver and decision maker, even in an autonomous work environment

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight of Architecture Project Managers (APMs) and the Design Team to support the projected new store rollout plan, inclusive of schedule and cost
  • Coordinate with Real Estate, Construction, and Legal during the pre-design phase, including evaluation of site conditions and Lease Outline Drawing (LOD)
  • Communicate requests for due diligence and ensure alignment with Format on required feasibility plans; support coordination with landlord teams
  • Enforce the Fixture Planning Process and ensure conformance with approved prototype and design standards
  • Facilitate approval and escalation of non-standard design conditions to the Format Team as required
  • Support Real Estate and Legal with Exhibit C template language related to utilities, design standards, and prototype references, including site-specific adjustments
  • Perform final review and approval of lease exhibits and signage packages, escalating issues when necessary
  • Oversee external architects and engineers, including onboarding and workload assignment
  • Maintain accountability for design budgets on a per-project basis and approve consultant task orders
  • Facilitate prototype changes through change errata, field directives, and implementation matrices
