About The Position

Arcadis seeks a Senior Major Projects Director to join our North America Major Projects team to help pursue and lead execution of our major projects across the U.S aligning with the overall Global and North America strategy on Major Projects. This role reports into the North America Major Projects Director part of the Arcadis Mobility Global Business Area team. The Project Director will ensure projects are managed and delivered profitably, monitor project risks, and implement technical innovations to help our contracting partners win and deliver Design-Build projects. The Project Director will oversee the project team(s) and be responsible for both the tender phase and the detailed design phase. Responsibilities include overseeing the success, management, and mentoring of the practice staff (project managers) to achieve operating metrics including financial performance, strategy development, delivering high-quality projects and work products, technology leadership, and client/account development. Responsible for health and safety stewardship, cross-selling, business development strategies, compliance with company policies and procedures, and training development. The right candidate possesses an elevated level of intellectual, professional, and interpersonal agility and flexibility. As part of the Major Projects team, work closely with global partners in delivering projects collaboratively. This position requires proactive engagement with multiple business areas to integrate diverse expertise and ensure successful delivery of complex projects.

Requirements

  • 20+ years of experience in similar roles either as Design Director, Technical Director, Project Director with major design firms or contractors managing design delivery on DB Projects or similar.
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction, or related field.
  • Design/Construction Industry background on large transit projects or tunnel projects.
  • Professional Engineering License
  • Strong Commercial mindset and business acumen, develops/implements project delivery solutions and represents the company to internal and external clients and markets.
  • Collaborative behavior and fostering collaborative culture to bring the right resources from all parts of the company to put forth a strong project execution team and delivery.
  • Ability to navigate and unify different business areas, leveraging specialized knowledge to optimize project outcomes.
  • Excellent management skills, strategic development, and critical thinking skills and develops and makes complex presentations.
  • Recruits, motivates and builds staff into a cohesive team to achieve Division/Regional goals and objectives.
  • Implements strategic plans and direction for the Region/Division.

Responsibilities

  • The Project Director will supervise Project Managers/Design Managers on Design-Build/Progressive Design Build/P3 projects to guide and mentor them to achieve project goals.
  • As part of the Major Projects Delivery Team, work closely with Major Projects team globally to setup, manage and deliver complex and large infrastructure/mobility projects.
  • Consistent project performance management vs "as sold” with solid forecasting, including non-financial execution basis (GEC, Sustainability, etc.).
  • Responsible for ensuring proper client/contractor focus and quality procedures are in place, ensuring that goal setting process is followed by operation and participating in the Go/No Go process, and providing relevant inputs to the decision-making process.
  • Applies the corporate and Divisional strategy to operation, and executes that strategy, formal PtW to DtR hand-off between Growth & Operations to document baseline scope, price, execution basis, risks & contingency.
  • Improved compliance with, and effectiveness of, project reviews, close review of scope, and change control.
  • Active management of project cash flow, including a clear understanding of baseline; visibility of DRO performance, unbilled receivables (WIP), and AR actively follow up where areas of MEPC+ are not performing and hold areas responsible for actions to restore performance.
  • Work closely with peers in Finance, Sales & Operations to support a systematic and collaborative approach to MEPC+ and actively create an environment for adoption of service best practices including standardization, automation, and digital tools.
  • Ensure service change is operationalized across the Business Areas and leadership understands and acts to their role in Service, advocate strong change management culture and commercial mindset apply benchmarking, and help develop consistent delivery work processes.
  • Champion cross-functional collaboration by coordinating with various business units to align technical, commercial, and operational strategies for project success

  • The salary range for this position is $250,000 - $325,000.
