WSP is currently initiating a search for a full-time Senior Lighting Studio Lead/ Project Lead to join our Irvine (Orange County) lighting studio. Other locations will be considered. The selected candidate will lead a team of lighting design experts in the WSP lighting studio who provide lighting solutions for commercial, healthcare, hotel, civic, cultural, stadiums, and educational facilities. The studio is dedicated to exploring and enhancing the user experience. By collaborating closely with client and design teams, as well as integrating with other specialty groups within WSP, the lighting studio provides inspired lighting solutions that leverage all project disciplines. From concept design to construction, the lighting team works closely with top-tier clients, internationally recognized Architects, Interior Designers, and Owners providing innovative, yet practical lighting solutions – creating spaces that are inspiring, sustainable, and future-ready. Your Impact Project management of large-scale projects and projects for key clients, some of which involve multiple service lines. Demonstrates understanding and management of client’s expectations for project goals, budget and schedules. Responsible for project accounting including budget monitoring, profitability, contract negotiations and timely resolution with clients. Develops objectives to increase business with selected clients. Assists with client networking, follow up on leads, follow up participation in marketing meetings, strategy sessions, etc. Promotes all of WSP’s service offerings when interacting with clients or potential clients. Works with the National Practice lead to prepare proposals and responses to RFP’s and participates at proposal presentations. Responsible and accountable for client satisfaction, maintaining a portfolio of clients and maintaining a steady level of repeat business. Delegates work properly to senior and non-senior staff; manages and coordinates the work. Ability to mentor staff on a project basis and assist with continued advancement of staff from project to project. Nurture and empower a team of 2-6 designers, prioritizing their growth, wellbeing and professional development. Takes active role in industry events and in professional organizations. Develops design concepts, leads design process and performs quality control reviews for architectural lighting system deliverables through all phases of the design and construction process. Coordination and integration of lighting systems/controls with other intelligent building systems. Review of light fixture installations and assistance with field aiming sessions and preparation of field observation reports. Participation in and coordination of light fixture mock-ups. Implement sustainable lighting design strategies and demonstrate code compliance. Attend team and project meetings and interface with internal specialty groups.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience designing high end architectural lighting solutions. Project experience submitted for consideration should include projects on which you have actively participated in the project from the design phase through the final construction close-out.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Architectural Engineering, Interior Design, Architecture, or Lighting Design
  • At least 5 years’ experience in supervisory and project management capacity.
  • Strong creative design skills
  • Experience in various types and sizes of projects including healthcare, science and technology, workplace, high-rise commercial office, high-end high rise residential, hospitality, retail, sports, educational, and exterior site landscape or urban master planning
  • Design experience of advanced lighting control systems and sustainable lighting strategies (LEED, WELL).
  • Ability to work efficiently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an emphasis on the ability to organize and present design information to clients. ​
  • AutoCAD and Revit experience desired.
  • Proficiency in Revit/AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and AGI32 or similar lighting software
  • Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software.
  • Extensive experience in working directly with clients.
  • Strong attention to detail and highly organized
  • Self-starter, ability to work independently, as well as manage multiple tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, and resources; conduct and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States.

  • Ability to render using hand drawing skills, Photoshop, Enscape, 3DS Max and/or InDesign
