About The Position

With a backlog of design projects and a growing sector nationally, Anchor QEA is seeking a senior-level waterfront structural engineer with 7 to 12 years of experience with a strong background leading the technical design and construction of waterfront development projects. The candidate will design piers, wharves, floating docks, boat launch ramps, seawalls, breakwaters, and other related civil/structural features for marinas, ports, and harbors. The candidate should have experience in project management related to these skills and be comfortable mentoring design engineers and CAD while also providing QA/QC to others. This position will support offices throughout the United States on projects throughout North America and will require occasional travel for meetings and site visits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited program in Civil, Coastal, or Structural Engineering (Master of Science degree preferred)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in Washington or California or ability to receive reciprocity within 6 months
  • 7 to 12 years in waterfront, site civil, coastal, and/or structural engineering with at least 5 years of experience in waterfront facilities projects
  • Ability to perform structural condition assessments and field investigations on land and water
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with structural engineering software such as SAP2000, RISA, LPILE, Shoring8, OPTIMOOR, ENERCALC, etc.
  • Knowledge of engineering codes and guidelines such as IBC, ASCE 7, ASCE 61, ASCE 41, ACI 318, AISC 360, etc.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including ability to write and review reports

Nice To Haves

  • PE licensure in other states or ability to receive reciprocity within 6 months as needed
  • Knowledge of marina and waterfront codes and references such as CA State Parks Division of Boating and Waterways Design Guidelines, U.S. DoD UFC, USACE Coastal Engineering Manual, MOTEMS, PIANC, etc.
  • Experience with US Federal agency engineering projects such as NPS, NAVFAC, USACE, USCG, etc.
  • Leadership and management experience overseeing projects, staff, subconsultants, clients, and agency relationships
  • Experience responding to Requests for Proposals, Expressions of Interest, and Statements of Qualifications
  • Membership participation in regional and national professional organizations
  • Experience with Bluebeam Revu and/or Adobe Acrobat
  • Experience with Microsoft Project
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Revit and/or MicroStation

Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of a principal engineer, serves as the design engineer leading waterfront infrastructure projects and associated upland components
  • Performs waterfront structural engineering planning and design including, but not limited to, concept designs, alternative studies, general arrangement plans, basis of design requirements, construction drawings, technical reports and specifications, civil/structural calculations, and construction cost estimates
  • Provides technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers
  • Coordinates with geotechnical, coastal, and dredging engineers, planners, and biologists
  • Coordinates with client’s project manager and/or technical staff
  • Analyzes complex problems and develops value-engineered solutions
  • Leads the preparation and coordination of project deliverables including construction documents
  • Ensures that work products are prepared in accordance with Anchor QEA’s quality management program
  • Ability to travel for field site visits and project meetings in various US locations
  • Perform existing condition assessments of facilities and infrastructure and gather pre-design information
  • Participate in construction support activities including review of contractor requests for information and submittals and oversight of construction activities
