This role is part of Blue Origin corporate functions, providing centralized support across Blue Origin business unit teams, functions, and locations. We are seeking a highly experienced Sr. Legal Counsel to join our Labor & Employment team within the Legal & Compliance department. As a key member of our dynamic and innovative team, you will collaborate with specialists who are at the forefront of cutting-edge technology development.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of legal experience with a strong focus on employment and labor law, including significant experience in benefits and compensation matters.
  • Experience in both law firm and in-house legal department settings is preferred.
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited U.S. college or university and membership in at least one U.S. state bar; the successful candidate will be required to obtain admission to the Washington State bar after hire.
  • Direct experience with benefits administration and compliance.
  • Proven ability to work efficiently and independently, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capacity to respond calmly and effectively to situations requiring quick action and decision-making.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain productive work relationships and provide legal advice to clients at all levels.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with multi-state employment law issues.
  • Certification or advanced training in Labor and Employment Law.
  • Prior experience in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate with the payroll department to ensure the accurate and compliant processing of benefits, deductions, and compensation changes.
  • Advise on benefits compliance with relevant laws and regulations, and review agreements for company benefits programs.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in Labor Relations, providing guidance on collective bargaining agreements, union negotiations, and related matters.
  • Provide expert legal advice to in-house clients on a wide range of employment compliance issues, including workplace conduct, hiring practices, leaves and accommodations, investigations, disciplinary actions, separations, and employee relations.
  • Balance business objectives with risk mitigation strategies to ensure compliance and foster a positive work environment.
  • Act as a strategic partner with Human Resources and manufacturing leaders to implement and enhance employment initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain subject matter expertise to support company operations across multiple states.
  • Manage litigation strategy, including EEOC responses and communications with government agencies.
  • Provide support for regulatory and compliance matters such as EEOC, OFCCP, AAPs, and EEO-1 reporting.
  • Collaborate with Legal and Human Resources leadership teams to develop and implement company-wide strategies and processes that scale with business growth.
