We are a global climate technologies company engineered for sustainability. We create sustainable and efficient residential, commercial and industrial spaces through HVACR technologies. We protect temperature-sensitive goods throughout the cold chain. And we bring comfort to people globally. Best-in-class engineering, design and manufacturing combined with category-leading brands in compression, controls, software and monitoring solutions result in next-generation climate technology that is built for the needs of the world ahead. Whether you are a professional looking for a career change, an undergraduate student exploring your first opportunity, or recent graduate with an advanced degree, we have opportunities that will allow you to innovate, be challenged and make an impact. Join our team and start your journey today! Reporting to the Director, Residential New Product Development, Senior/Lead Residential HVAC System & Application Engineer will be responsible for aligning and syncing residential compression design, testing, and qualification practices with practical HVAC system design, modeling, and operational conventions. The individual will work closely with compression development teams to ensure that products are system-optimized, with a focus on world-class performance, efficiency, quality, and reliability during both normal and abnormal system operation. WHO YOU ARE: You are eager to embrace new technology ideas and have a passion for maturing conceptual ideas into tangible solutions. You can quickly break down a problem and give directions to answer the unknowns. You are passionate about finding innovative solutions, and you can use your knowledge and intuition to know when an idea has potential and needs further investigation. You are able to map out a learning path for a problem that does not have a clear definition. You enjoy working with other functions to understand their needs and find solutions to those needs, and you are energized by engaging with global teams to find optimal solutions. You facilitate an open dialogue with a wide variety of contributors and stakeholders.

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for residential HVAC system knowledge, closing competency gaps in system design and operation knowledge within the broader compressor engineering community.
  • Work closely with Product Development teams to build and maintain a strong technical comprehension of current and future compression products, with a focus on how these designs are affected by system architecture and normal/abnormal system operation.
  • Collaborate with R&D and product management to ensure new product designs align with application requirements and market needs.
  • Provide advanced technical expertise and guidance from a system application perspective, with a focus on how system operation impacts the compressor. Support Application FMEAs to ensure compressor designs appropriately consider all appropriate system operating nuances.
  • Generate robust application guidance, technical documentation, and training materials for internal teams, contractors, and channel partners for new and existing compression solutions based on the anticipated (normal and abnormal) operation anticipated in the field.
  • Collaborate with Reliability Engineering and Quality Engineering teams to improve and optimize life testing protocols based on real-world system operating profiles.
  • Conduct application testing, simulations, and performance evaluations using HVAC system modeling tools and software to support your hypothesis and conclusions.
  • Stay informed of existing and emerging residential compressor and system design, qualification, and rating standards & regulatory requirements (UL, AHRI, ASHRAE, etc.)
  • Engage and collaborate closely with customers, particularly those in engineering who are evaluating compression technology in order to rationalize value assumptions and obtain feedback on applicability of future technologies.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering preferred, and at least 10 years work experience in HVAC system design.
  • Detailed understanding of HVAC system design and practical application in field installations.
  • Good understanding of the application of computer simulation tools and theory to HVAC system design.
  • Understanding of how positive displacement compressors' reliability is impacted by a variety of application scenarios
  • Excellent critical thinking and structured problem-solving skills.
  • Works effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to quickly and efficiently understand and organize information necessary to make engineering decisions.
  • Minimal travel (~5%) to customers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • 5 years experience in North American residential ducted split system design experience preferred.
  • Master's Degree is preferred.
  • Flexible and competitive benefits plans offer the right options to meet your individual/family needs: medical insurance plans, dental and vision coverage, 401(k) and more.
