Opportunity for impact Newfire Global Partners, a leader in developing disruptive healthcare technology, collaborates with Fortune 500 companies and start-ups to drive transformation. Newfire is seeking a Senior Python Data Engineer who will be working on a project involving modernizing the client’s data stack by consolidating two existing data solutions that include overlapping data and rely on legacy SQL- and SSIS-based pipelines. The initiative focuses on transitioning to a modern, scalable, Python-based data platform, improving performance, maintainability, and long-term sustainability. The work emphasizes production-quality data pipelines, standardized engineering practices, and reliable data infrastructure designed to support healthcare operations in a regulated environment. As part of the broader modernization effort, legacy components are expected to be gradually phased out as the new platform becomes stable and fully adopted. What's the Project? Our client is a U.S. healthcare organization operating in the care management and quality improvement space, supporting healthcare organizations in improving outcomes, addressing care gaps, and promoting health equity.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering or backend platform roles, with deep hands-on Python expertise
  • Strong experience designing and operating modern data platforms, working daily with Python, Dagster, Snowflake, and/or Databricks
  • Proven ability to define and enforce engineering standards, patterns, and guardrails
  • Experience leading technical decision-making on high-impact or long-term architectural changes
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD, dependency management, testing, and release practices for Python systems
  • Hands-on experience with GitHub and GitHub Actions for CI/CD
  • Solid knowledge of data modeling, orchestration, and workflow design
  • Experience working in regulated environments, preferably healthcare
  • Awareness of HIPAA / HITRUST requirements when handling sensitive data
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and an ownership mindset for production systems

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with SSIS is a strong plus

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain production Python data pipelines, working daily with Python, Dagster, Snowflake, and Databricks
  • Define, evolve, and document Python engineering standards, patterns, and guardrails for the data platform
  • Lead adoption of version-locked dependency management and standardized development workflows
  • Build, maintain, and improve GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines for build, test, security checks, and deployment
  • Review complex designs and code for correctness, security, performance, and long-term maintainability
  • Ensure data pipelines are reliable and operable, with proper error handling, retries, idempotency, and validation
  • Anticipate failure modes and design systems for recoverability and operational clarity
  • Troubleshoot CI/CD failures, dependency conflicts, and production incidents, participating in root-cause analysis
  • Apply secure development practices appropriate for healthcare data (secrets management, least privilege, safe logging)
  • Collaborate closely with platform architecture and data platform teams to ensure end-to-end coherence
  • Mentor senior engineers through design reviews, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing
  • As a Senior team member, you will be expected to actively participate in our hiring processes by serving on interview panels for future roles across the company.
