About The Position

The purpose of this position is to oversee the collection and testing of the characteristics of water and/or wastewater samples. This is accomplished by monitoring the collection and set up of all testing, reviewing policies, procedures and regulations, running regularly scheduled test on samples, recording test data and results, reporting inconsistencies and abnormalities, ensuring all lab equipment, supplies and materials are sufficient and tested. Other duties include maintaining inventories, ordering and receiving materials and supplies, and ensuring safety. This position is expected to regularly work in or around bodies of water greater in depth than 4 feet, which may pose hazard, especially in the absence of swimming ability.

Requirements

  • Driver's License Required - Y Type - C
  • Class B Surface Water Certification from the TCEQ
  • Individuals who currently possess a Class C Surface Water Certification will be given 36 months from date of hire or promotion or until they meet minimum time requirements to test for a "B" license and/or, 4 attempts at the "B" certification exam as a condition of employment.
  • Must be able to work different shifts and must be able to share calls on the weekends.
  • Mission Essential Position will be required to report for all inclement weather.
  • This position is expected to regularly work in or around bodies of water greater in depth than 4 feet, which may pose hazard, especially in the absence of swimming ability.
  • Over six months and up to and including one year of experience.
  • Requires Bachelor's degree or education and training equivalent to four years of college education in business, liberal arts, or any field other than engineering or the hard sciences.

Responsibilities

  • Regular and reliable attendance in compliance with given schedules is a mandatory requirement of this position. Schedules may be subject to change with or without advance notice
  • Manages lab activities by scheduling and assigning tasks, monitoring activities, developing and administering lab policies and procedures, establishing quality assurance procedures, documenting training programs for technicians, training operators on laboratory techniques and equipment, and ensuring safety procedures are followed.
  • Prepares and analyzes samples by completing all established procedures, running analysis on a regular or pre-established basis, saving samples, and recording results.
  • Records and reports results by approving submitted data, entering information into logs, reports and databases, submitting regular reports to regulatory authorities and supervision, reviewing backup data for trends or abnormalities, and ensuring lab maintains certifications.
  • Completes administrative tasks by monitoring time and attendance, interacting with the public, departments and management, answering questions and inquiries on water and/or wastewater quality issues, ordering supplies, equipment and materials, calibrating equipment, monitoring safety procedures and taking safety precautions, representing the lab in meetings and discussions, and interacting with vendors.
  • Prepares and submits recommendations for the annual budget by researching information, recommending purchases, expenditures, capital equipment and staffing levels, presenting budget or recommendations, monitoring ongoing expenditures, and recommending budget adjustments.
