Senior Instrumentation and Controls Engineer (Preconstruction)
About The Position
Candid is building the AI layer for EPCs. We use AI to reduce the manual effort behind preconstruction engineering by automating document understanding, consistency checks, and repetitive workflow steps across major disciplines. Our goal is to make preconstruction 10x faster without sacrificing engineering quality. We recently raised $6.5M from top AI and industrial investors (including Schneider Electric and Meta’s Chief AI Scientist). Our team includes engineers from MIT, Carnegie Mellon, major LNG and power projects, and leading EPCs. You will help us translate real instrumentation and control workflows into product requirements and validation checks: Define how control intent and instrumentation is developed and validated during FEED Review and validate I&C content across P&IDs, indices, datasheets, and package interfaces Create repeatable checks that catch completeness, tagging, and consistency issues early Map where I&C rework happens and what typically causes it Clarify interfaces with Process, Mechanical packages, and Electrical Identify which steps are repetitive vs which require real engineering judgement Your experience will help define the checks, workflows, and product requirements that let software take on the repetitive parts, with engineers in control.
Requirements
- 7+ years at an EPC, PMC, or owner operator
- Strong understanding of FEED and early detailed design I&C workflows
- Experience reviewing P&IDs and building I&C deliverables (instrument index, datasheets, narratives)
- Familiarity with ISA standards and common downstream practices
- Ability to spot inconsistencies across P&IDs, datasheets, and vendor packages
- Clear understanding of cross discipline dependencies
Nice To Haves
- Familiarity with SIS concepts and supporting safety reviews
- Experience with packaged equipment controls and vendor coordination
- Interest in AI or automation
