About The Position

This Senior Human Services Program Specialist position is in the Office of the Attorney General within the Victim Services Unit in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Requirements

  • Eight (8) years of experience in social work or victim services, probation and parole, claims or benefits eligibility determination.
  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university can substitute for four (4) years of the required work experience.
  • A master's degree in a related field can substitute for six years of the required experience.

Nice To Haves

  • At least two years’ experience providing direct services to crime victims.
  • Experience working with crime victims in the court process.
  • Familiar with the principles and techniques of effective crisis intervention.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and are comfortable with public speaking, and can work independently and effectively manage time while completing a variety of tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Provides appellate notification and explains court decisions, court documents and provides court accompaniment to victims and next of kin in assigned district courts of appeal, circuit court and the Florida Supreme Court.
  • Enters and tracks victim information into the criminal appellate database, works as a liaison with the State Attorney’s Office (SAO) to obtain accurate victim information, trains SAO advocates and other allied professionals on the criminal appellate process and other duties necessary related to the criminal appellate process.
  • Analyze victims’ compensation claims through the VAN and VANNext systems in order to assist both victims of crime and victim compensation analysts with claim determination. Work collaboratively with law enforcement agencies and the public regarding line of duty death claims.
  • Schedules and provides in-depth training to allied professionals related to Division programs, such as the Address Confidentiality Program, Victim Compensation, and Cybersafety.
  • Serves as a liaison with local city, county, and state officials, allied professional groups, community groups and the community at large in order to provide information about Florida Statute 960 and collaborate to improve victim services.
  • Ensures necessary services are being provided within the assigned geographical area and works with community providers to fill gaps in services.
  • Attends local coalition meetings, taskforces, workgroups and review teams to assist with analysis of criminal cases in efforts to improve victim services.
  • Deployment to mass casualty criminal incidents, to assist victims, families and communities in need of assistance with victim compensation claims and other duties as assigned.
  • Serves as consultant to management for the purposes of improving operational procedures.
  • Complete special assignments and perform related duties as assigned.
