About The Position

Do you have a passion for high-volume hardware design and an owner mentality for the products you build? We are looking for a highly capable Sr. Hardware Systems Engineer ready to make a significant impact by delivering cutting-edge, new products to market. This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast-growing team and drive the complete hardware systems lifecycle for solutions that are disrupting the industry. About the Opportunity: Systems Ownership and Execution As a Sr. Hardware Systems Engineer, you will be a core technical contributor, responsible for executing and leading the hardware systems development for our next generation of products. You will utilize your expertise to drive complex technical tradeoffs, ensure designs are robust and manufacturable, and collaborate across engineering disciplines to deliver successful products at scale. You will have substantial ownership over critical phases of the product life cycle, from deep dive technical feasibility through validation and high-volume manufacturing. This is a hybrid position requiring three days per week in our San Francisco, CA office and two days working remotely. This position requires travel up to 25% of the time and proximity to an international airport. Relocation assistance will be provided for this role. We are open to candidates residing in the U.S. who are willing and able to relocate to the Bay Area.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in shipping high-volume hardware programs, working effectively with ODM/JDM partners.
  • Proven expertise in systems design, encompassing multiple areas such as chipset/SoC selection, power optimization, antennas/RF, batteries, sensors, and PCB design.
  • A strong record of navigating and resolving complex tradeoffs among design performance, manufacturability, cost, and aggressive schedules.
  • Experience across a variety of hardware systems, including those leveraging low power design, wireless technologies (LTE, BLE, WiFi, GPS), embedded computing, and sensing/imaging.
  • Expertise in system bring-up and debug, including validation, desense mitigation, and power characterization.
  • BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with global cross-functional teams and drive independent work.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with certifications and testing involved with industrial and automotive settings (e.g., ISO 16750, AEC-Q100).
  • Familiarity with schematic and layout tools (e.g., Altium, Cadence Allegro).
  • Experience with design for supply, design for reliability/testing, and design for manufacture (DfX) principles.

Responsibilities

  • Systems Design and Ownership: Execute and drive the electrical engineering architecture and design for new products. This includes performing feasibility studies, managing key component selection (chipsets, SoCs, sensors), and leading technical execution around areas like power, thermals, RF/Antenna design, and PCB specifications.
  • Full Product Lifecycle Support: Spearhead the development process from initial prototyping, system bring-up, and debug through rigorous validation, certification, and preparation for high-volume production.
  • Customer-Centric Execution: Collaborate closely with Product Management and customers to understand system requirements, translating user needs into robust, scalable hardware specifications and successful product designs.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Serve as a key technical leader, working seamlessly with Product Design (PD), Firmware (FW), Engineering Program Management (EPM), and NPI teams to resolve integration challenges and make excellent technical and schedule tradeoffs.
  • Partner Management: Work in close partnership with Joint Development Manufacturing (JDM) partners, providing clear technical direction and validation oversight to ensure product quality and timely delivery for mass production.

Benefits

  • Relocation assistance will be provided for this role.
