Microsoft Azure is developing a high‑performance and reliable public cloud and is seeking individuals who can work across the full technology stack, from hardware to systems to applications, transforming ideas into production systems quickly. The Hardware Engineer role contributes to building what is described as the world’s fastest public cloud, supporting technology that impacts millions of people. As a Hardware Engineer IC4 on the Azure Boost Storage Acceleration Hardware team, responsibilities include micro‑architecture and hardware module design, timing closure, thorough verification and testing of hardware systems, and deployment of accelerated storage services. The role advances the next generation of accelerated storage using hardware‑first protocols such as Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe), with a focus on improving input and output operations per second (IOPS), bandwidth, latency, and overhead. The position offers rapid hardware development cycles, enabling concepts to reach production within months, and provides opportunities to innovate across the entire computing stack within a hyperscale global cloud environment. This position allows hardware developers to see their register transfer level (RTL) code reach production within weeks and enables software developers to benefit from the performance and efficiency of customized hardware. It supports the continued development of one of the few truly hyperscale global clouds, with opportunities for innovation at every layer of the computing stack. Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.
