About The Position

The Role: Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Subject Matter Experts (SME) are responsible for ensuring that electromagnetic performance criteria is met for all assigned components. Engineers in this position are responsible to work closely with electronic module and component suppliers to ensure that their designs are utilizing standard methodologies to achieve optimal EMC performance at the component level so that vehicle level integration issues are minimized. This role takes on detailed reviews of circuit board level designs and analysis of test data, with hands-on test occurring as needed to assist in problem solving and root cause analysis. The SME will collaborate with GM DREs, Development Teams, Virtual Design, Development & Validation (Analysis), Technical Specialists, and Program Teams. This position provides an excellent opportunity for the selected candidate to utilize state-of-the-art lab facilities and tools to develop exceptional expertise in vehicle electronics and to create a strong relational network within the company.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Electronic Systems or related field.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in EMC.
  • 5+ years experience in automotive design and/or validation of electronic components.
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge related to design and operation of electronic control modules and their application in automotive environments.
  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms.
  • People Skills: High level of oral and written communication skills with the ability to work with autonomy and effectively with others within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Exhibits appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals.
  • High level analytical ability where problems are unusual and complex.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • DFSS Black Belt.
  • Knowledge of engineering software and systems as it pertains to job-related area.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate EMC Component Design Reviews for new electrical ECU designs in cooperation with the EMC Technical Fellow as needed.
  • Develop EMC component test plans with suppliers and approve in CEMENT database.
  • Review electrical component EMC test data/results in CEMENT and work to resolve any issues through a 5-phase process.
  • Bring attention to EMC issues which may impact successful on-time completing of validation.
  • Provide EMC expertise to GM partners for root causing EMC issues when required for responsible components at both component and vehicle level.
  • Assist EMC requirement owners to develop any new Best Practices as needed for components in area of responsibility.
  • Provide technical support and expertise to suppliers as necessary to ensure they meet EMC Vehicle Level requirements.
  • Work with other EMC component EMC engineers via participation in the Global EMC Test Plan Commonization Workgroup. Meetings to ensure common approach to design reviews, test plan reviews, and data/results reviews globally.
  • Participate in special assignments aimed at improving GM business practices both in and outside of the local department.
