A. Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. (AMT), an employee-owned consultant engineering firm, is seeking a Senior GIS Analyst / Survey Technician to join our Team in the Herndon, VA office. This candidate will work on both GIS and Survey assignments. The position will entail working in a dual role to perform both GIS and survey assignments. The GIS assignments will include geo-referencing property plat images, ability to convert data and understand/transform coordinate systems, GIS data input, and Quality Control Review. The survey assignments will include survey computations, preparation of topographic and boundary surveys, as-built surveys, preparation of record drawings and easement plats. The candidate will also have the opportunity to perform field survey data collection, if so desired. Candidate will be required to be proficient in ArcGIS Pro and AutoCAD software platforms. Experience with MicroStation is a plus. Salary is: $36 - $40 / hour based on education and experience. Excellent Work / Life Balance opportunity. Candidate must live within the DMV area and ability to commute to the Herndon office location. Hybrid work arrangements will be considered on a case by case basis.

  • Perform GIS activities to include georeferencing, creating spatial features, and developing databases.
  • Ability to convert data and understand/transform coordinate systems
  • Perform Quality Control Review of georeferencing, GIS Input, and deliverables.
  • Provide training to GIS staff
  • Provide support to the project manager.
  • Perform CAD drafting using GIS application software
  • Perform survey computations for deed composites,
  • Perform data processing of topographic and boundary survey data collection files.
  • Prepare topographic and boundary survey finished drawings.
  • Prepare easement and right-of-way drawings and legal descriptions.
  • Prepare As-Built survey drawings.
  • Perform property, deed, and plat research.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Licensed Surveyor
  • 2- or 4-year survey, geography, or engineering degree preferred
  • 8 years or more surveying and/or GIS experience
  • Ability to read and understand property plats, maps, engineering plans and architectural plans
  • CAD,GIS and survey software proficiency
  • Proficiency in Bluebeam, Adobe, and Microsoft Office Suite software packages.
  • Excellent organizational skills and following AMT CAD protocol
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple concurrent assignments
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong team player with commitment to company values
  • Ability to work overtime when necessary
  • Experience with MicroStation is a plus.
