About The Position

The Senior Fleet Maintenance Technician is a skilled technician and technical leader responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining Beacon’s fleet of Class 8 trucks, trailers, containers, and heavy equipment across all Michigan locations. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager , this position combines hands-on technical expertise with administrative coordination, working within Limble CMMS to schedule repairs, manage parts inventory, evaluate vendor quotes, and ensure fleet availability to meet operational demands. The Senior Fleet Maintenance Technician serves as a technical resource to other maintenance technicians while maintaining strong communication with dispatch, vendors, and the Fleet & Driver Manager.

Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of diesel engines, electrical, hydraulic, brake, and emissions systems.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools and maintenance software (CMMS/Limble preferred).
  • Ability to read technical manuals, diagrams, and vendor quotes.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with parts inventory, procurement, and cost control.
  • Leadership ability to support and mentor technicians.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a diesel or heavy truck technician.
  • Experience working on Class 8 trucks and trailers.
  • Knowledge of DOT inspections and FMCSA regulations.
  • Ability to diagnose, repair, and perform preventive maintenance with minimal supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • ASE Certifications (T1–T8) and CDL (A or B) are a plus.
  • Technical or vocational training in diesel mechanics preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains advanced knowledge of, and high-level proficiency in, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining fleet equipment across all Beacon locations.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and complex repairs on Class 8 trucks, trailers, containers, and heavy equipment, including diesel engines, electrical, hydraulic, brake, and emissions systems.
  • Conducts DOT inspections and ensures all equipment meets FMCSA safety and compliance standards.
  • Identifies root causes of mechanical failures using diagnostic tools, software, and technical expertise.
  • Schedules, tracks, and prioritizes maintenance and repairs.
  • Coordinates daily with dispatch regarding equipment status, repair timelines, and readiness for service.
  • Orders parts, manages inventory, and maintains accurate documentation of all repairs and costs.
  • Evaluates vendor quotes and coordinates outsourced repairs, ensuring cost-effective and timely service.
  • Maintains an organized stockroom and ensures accurate tracking of parts and materials.
  • Provides technical guidance, troubleshooting support, and mentorship to maintenance technicians.
  • Promotes and follows all safety policies and procedures, including proper use of PPE and reporting of hazards or incidents.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
