About The Position

Eaton’s Power Components Division of Electrical Sector Americas is seeking a Sr Firmware Engineer to join Embedded Systems group. The position is based out of Moon Township, Pittsburg reporting to the Firmware Engineering Manager. As an embedded software engineer, you will work with global engineering teams to design and develop the firmware for our next generation control and monitoring systems integrated with Eaton’s Circuit Breaker product offerings. Responsibilities include design and development of embedded software, supporting the resolution of production, product quality, customer application issues and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. This individual will work closely with other firmware engineers, Hardware and Test team members across the globe, interacts with other functional groups like mechanical, industrialization and production in meeting new product development and product line support objectives. The expected annual salary range for this role is $86000 - $126000 a year. Please note the salary information shown is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or similar from an accredited institution.
  • Three years of hands-on experience in embedded software development including multi controller systems (C/C++, RTOS), low-level hardware interfaces (ADC, PWM, UART, SPI, I2C), communication protocols (Modbus, CAN, Ethernet, MQTT), safety critical applications (UL, IEC).

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to read schematics, experience using Digital Occilloscopes and logic analyzers.
  • Passion for innovation, scalable and reusable designs.
  • Use of modern software engineering practices focusing on continuous improvements.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution, prefer Electrical or Computer Engineering
  • Experience in Agile development methodologoes, CI/CT, automated testing tools
  • Experience with cybersecurity standards, and functional safety.
  • Experience investigating, resolving complex system issues, interfacing with cross functional teams
  • Experience with Zephyr RTOS

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex embedded firmware design, development and testing tasks
  • Plans work in detail at individual level, creating a robust and trackable plan, coordinated with the larger development team
  • Review own work as well as others work in formal design and quality reviews.
  • Tests own work or work of others, meeting quality and reliability goals.
  • Develops a high level of technical expertise in embedded software design and over time becomes a subject matter expert.
  • Performs and contributes to technical research and investigations
  • Address product quality, customer and production issues in a timely manner, collaborating with other functional groups as necessary
