About The Position

To perform complex financial analysis and to provide supervisory guidance in a fiscal group of the Medical Branch.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance/Accounting or equivalent in a related field.
  • Four years of related experience in a financial or related field.
  • Possess and demonstrate advanced knowledge and understanding, with progressive development, of financial statements and relationships, analytical techniques, operations, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, practices, and procedures
  • Progressive development of the ability to analyze/evaluate data
  • Advanced Excel skills are necessary
  • Must possess excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively work and communicate with individuals at all levels of the institution
  • Possess advanced decision-making skills
  • Strong organizational and planning skills
  • Effective problem-solving skills
  • Ability to develop, communicate, and accomplish goals
  • Demonstrates a high degree of professionalism.

Nice To Haves

  • Please note, it is essential that candidates have a thorough understanding of governmental accounting. It is significantly different from private-sector accounting (planning, recognition, and reporting).
  • Previous experience at UTMB with knowledge of UTMB Plan, Oracle Smart View add-in, OBIEE, and PeopleSoft FMS
  • Knowledge of Endowments and gift recognition is highly desirable.
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Experience in Health Systems and Academic Medicine, Higher Education, and/or Public Sector is desirable

Responsibilities

  • Assists with department operations including departmental budget, staffing, and special projects
  • Supervises the coordination, preparation, and analysis of complex financial and operational reports, financial statements, scorecards, metrics, benchmarks, budgets, and financial forecasts across multiple areas
  • Performs finance support functions as a working lead for multiple areas
  • Oversees and validates complex analysis of historical and projected financial and operational data to provide leadership information to make relevant financial decisions
  • Manages, validates, and coordinates the preparation of information to support developing trends that will inform forecasts and management decision-making
  • Identifies and utilizes technology and best practices to ensure continuous process improvement
  • Manage and monitor endowments, grants, and other funding-related activities for multiple areas.
  • Oversees the development and administration of the department budget.
  • Oversees the quality assurance functions of financial data and statistical information
  • Remains current with and progressively learns industry trends, analytical techniques, and appropriate financial systems necessary to complete essential job functions
  • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure
  • Performs related duties as assigned
