The Senior Field Service Technician (FST) is responsible for advanced field service support including start-up and commissioning, preventative maintenance, and in-depth troubleshooting of submersible wastewater pumps (Flygt) and control panels at customer sites. This is a senior-level, customer-facing role that requires strong technical expertise, independent decision-making, and the ability to support and guide others when needed. Product-specific training will be provided.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
  • 5+ years of relevant field service or technical experience preferred
  • Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude
  • Advanced troubleshooting and critical-thinking skills
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation
  • Strong communication skills with customers and internal teams
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, mobile devices, and service software
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrates accountability and ownership of work
  • Proactively seeks and applies feedback
  • Uses root cause analysis (RCA) to solve problems effectively
  • Identifies and mitigates risk in the field
  • Performs effectively under pressure and during emergency situations
  • Leads by example and supports team development
  • Embraces change with a positive, solution-oriented mindset
  • Aligns actions with Xylem’s broader organizational goals
  • Must pass and maintain a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with submersible pumps, wastewater systems, or industrial equipment strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, repair, and perform hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical testing of submersible wastewater pumps
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting of electrical control panels and systems
  • Interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
  • Lead equipment start-ups and commissioning activities
  • Train customers on proper operation and maintenance of equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance and respond to emergency service callouts
  • Operate and maintain a company service truck, including crane and outriggers
  • Operate industrial equipment in a shop environment (e.g., forklifts, overhead cranes)
  • Utilize company-provided hand and power tools safely and effectively
  • Maintain accurate service records within Xylem’s work order management system
  • Promote and maintain a safe, organized work environment at Xylem facilities and customer locations
  • Care for company property, tools, and vehicles
  • Demonstrate Xylem’s High Impact culture through accountability, innovation, and empowerment
  • Work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
