About The Position

The Senior Field Support Engineer – UAS serves as a vital link between Field Operations, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams. This role supports rapid technical resolution of field issues and ensures accurate capture and communication of operational feedback to internal teams. The engineer is responsible for implementing and evolving a Failure Reporting, Analysis, and Corrective Action System (FRACAS) and for ensuring field technical issues are triaged, tracked, and resolved in a structured, data-driven way. Key responsibilities include: Coordinate in person with Engineering teams and regularly attend Failure Review Boards on-site in Irvine, CA. Serve as the engineering point-of-contact for incoming field issues, coordinating with SMEs and tracking resolution progress. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Quality, Manufacturing, IT, Engineering) to design and deploy a unified FRACAS system. Manage the triage and tracking of field issues, generate reports and summaries, and present findings to leadership. Develop training materials and mentor users to ensure consistent use of the reporting system. Create and maintain a searchable technical knowledge base for historical problem-solving Support investigation and reporting of mishap events and field incidents. Assist in the creation of technical documentation such as Engineering Memos and Service Bulletins. Support logistical responses tied to field findings and corrective actions. Analyze maintenance and failure data to contribute to spare pars planning and system reliability improvements. Expected to work on-site during regular business hours when not covering active field deployments. Provide off-hours/weekend support as needed when field assets are deployed. May take on leadership responsibilities for managing additional technical support personnel as field operations scale.

Requirements

  • 5 – 7 years of Field Support experience as engineer.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills; ability to collaborate with executive stakeholders and technical teams.
  • Experience with issue triage, technical coordination, or root cause investigations.
  • Ability to identify and coordinate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to resolve technical problems.
  • Familiarity with technical documentation standards and ability to create service bulletins or troubleshooting memos.
  • Comfortable working in high-urgency environments, including availability for off-hours support when necessary.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Must be based in or willing to relocate to Irvine, CA area.
  • Must be able to obtain Secret Clearance
  • It is an essential requirement for the person in this role to have a legal right to work in the United States and be eligible to obtain any required Export Authorization and DoD Clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) or aerospace product development
  • Familiarity with systems such as avionics, power distribution, propulsion, flight controls, airframes, or datalinks.
  • Experience with composite structures and maintenance best practices.
  • Experience working with Quality, Manufacturing, and Engineering teams in a field support capacity.
  • Prior experience creating and scaling a Failure Reporting and Corrective Action System (FRACAS).
  • Experience analyzing maintenance data to support operational readiness and spare parts planning.
  • Ability to create or manage a searchable troubleshooting knowledge base.
