The California Regional Water Quality Control Board, San Diego Region has an opening for a Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory) in the Restoration & Protection Planning Unit. The position is located at 2375 Northside Drive, San Diego, California 92108, in the Mission Valley area near light rail stations and other public transportation. The Senior Environmental Scientist (supervisory) position in the Restoration & Protection Planning Unit is responsible for supervising the work of staff responsible for Basin Plan amendments, Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) and other plans to restore impaired water quality conditions of surface and groundwater resources, acting as a project manager and as a liaison for related internal and external stakeholder groups locally and statewide. The position requires occasional field visits, potentially in harsh terrain and inclement weather, and at sites that may have hazardous material. Requirements

  • Candidates must possess essential personal qualifications including integrity, initiative, dependability, good judgment, the ability to work cooperatively with others, and the ability to perform the assigned duties of the class.
  • If the position requires driving, you must possess a current and valid driver's license.
  • Must have Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory) list, transfer, or reinstatement eligibility and be reachable on the certification list.
  • An applicant with a college degree obtained outside the United States that does meet accreditation standards must have education records evaluated by a credential's evaluation service.
  • You are required to complete employment history on the application form (STD. 678), including work experience, dates, hours worked, contact names and phone numbers of supervisors on the state application.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of or experience with the role of State Government in water quality regulation, protection, or restoration.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey complex information to professional staff and the general public.
  • Ability to effectively plan, prioritize, and track projects or work lasting 1-3 years independently and in teams to meet deadlines to achieve organizational goals.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate teams to achieve a task or goal.
  • Experience with and dedication to public participation in addressing environmental issues.
  • Experience conducting environmental-related field inspections or investigations.
  • Experience or training with supervisory principles and techniques for topics such as conflict management, personnel management, performance management, and leadership.
  • Experience providing critical analysis to models or model outputs used for water quality or hydrologic analysis or prediction.
