About The Position

Stantec is seeking dynamic and creative candidates to join our growing Site Assessment and Remediation Team as a Senior Environmental Engineer. The Senior Environmental Engineer will take a technical lead role and execute designs for mine closure projects. This person may be required to work on several projects at a time. We support clients in all phases of the mining life cycle, from exploration through post-closure. The Senior Environmental Engineer will join our team of mine closure specialists across our western regional offices. This position will require a passionate and organized individual who can interface and develop relationships with our mining clients; develop and lead teams; develop project scopes, budgets, and schedules; develop and lead site investigations and characterization; execute and review calculations; develop mine closure plans; and prepare expertly written reports. This individual will interact throughout the organization internally and externally with clients and members of business and professional organizations.

Requirements

  • Expertise in mine closure design.
  • Expertise in mine closure regulatory framework at State and Federal levels.
  • Understanding of acid rock drainage chemistry and treatment.
  • Experience in marketing and preparing proposals and presentations.
  • Ability to mentor junior to mid-level staff.
  • Strong technical report writing skills.
  • Ability to work on several projects or tasks during any given day on a consistent basis.
  • Ability to manage time, be organized, and set priorities.
  • Possess strong problem-solving skills and ability to make timely decisions.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to perform in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Be a driver of a positive work environment.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Minimum of an M.S. in Environmental Engineering or related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 12 years of working experience in consulting or regulatory environment on mine closure projects.
  • Existing professional registration (PE).

Nice To Haves

  • Preference given to candidates with operational experience performing closure work at mines.

Responsibilities

  • Work with hydrogeologists, geochemists, and geotechnical, civil, and mining engineers, to develop mine closure plans.
  • Assist with the implementation, permitting, and management of federal and state mining projects
  • Develop mine water management approaches including water budgets, mine dewatering, waste material impoundments, and groundwater containment/mitigation.
  • Work with clients to deliver safe, responsible, and innovative solutions.
  • Attend meetings and interface with clients, agencies, external consultants, contractors, sub-contractors, and/or vendors.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control on their own projects and projects of peers.
  • Prepare technical reports.
  • Support business development efforts and proposal preparation.
  • Contribute to an innovative and collaborative work environment where creativity is valued and encouraged.
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff members and support hiring new talents.
  • International or national travel can be expected.
