About The Position

Edesia is a non-profit social enterprise on a mission to end global malnutrition. We manufacture and distribute life-saving, ready-to-use therapeutic foods—such as Plumpy’Nut and Nutributter—to treat and prevent malnutrition among children and mothers in the world’s most vulnerable and hard-to-reach c ommunities. Through strong partnerships with leading humanitarian organizations, NGOs, and Ministries of Health, we ensure our products reach those who need them most—even in the midst of the most complex and challenging humanitarian emergencies. The Senior EHS Manager is a strategic and hands-on leader responsible for designing, implementing, and continuously improving industrial EHS programs across manufacturing and warehouse operations. Reporting to the Sr. Global Director of EHS, this role complements day-to-day EHS management by providing deep technical expertise, strong manufacturing acumen, and a continuous improvement (CI) mindset to proactively identify, assess, and mitigate risk while enabling safe, compliant, and efficient operations. This role is critical in building scalable, audit-ready EHS systems aligned with OSHA, EPA, state, and local regulations, and in embedding safety excellence into operational culture. The ideal candidate will bring strong manufacturing and plant-based leadership experience, with the ability to scale from site ownership to multi-site technical leadership. They will apply a practical, risk-based EHS approach, drive change through influence and continuous improvement, and demonstrate proven success in regulatory compliance, site safety programs, and embedding EHS into daily operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, Industrial Safety, or a related technical field required.
  • 8–10+ years of progressive EHS experience in manufacturing or industrial environments, supporting complex operations such as maintenance, utilities, and material handling.
  • Demonstrated expertise in OSHA regulations and the development, deployment, and auditing of industrial EHS programs, including hands-on experience with hazard controls.
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable OSHA standards (e.g., 1910, 1926), EPA regulations, and relevant NFPA and ANSI standards.
  • Proven ability to integrate EHS into continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and risk assessment capabilities, with the ability to influence without authority and partner effectively across functions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including executive-level reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Program Development Design, implement, and continuously improve comprehensive industrial EHS programs aligned with OSHA, EPA, NFPA, and applicable state and local regulations.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for complex industrial EHS programs, ensuring consistency, effectiveness, and scalability across sites.
  • Partner with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, and CI teams to integrate EHS requirements into equipment design, process changes, and capital projects.
  • Support the Sr. Global Director of EHS in setting multi-year EHS strategy, KPIs, and maturity roadmaps.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local EHS regulations, including but not limited to OSHA, EPA, DOT, and fire codes.
  • Lead regulatory readiness activities, including inspections, agency interactions, and corrective action management.
  • Conduct and oversee risk assessments, job hazard analyses (JHAs), process hazard analyses (PHAs), and environmental impact reviews.
  • Track, interpret, and communicate regulatory changes impacting manufacturing and industrial operations.
  • Electrical Safety & Arc Flash : Arc flash studies, labeling, PPE requirements, energized work permits, and training.
  • Chemical Management : Chemical storage, handling, compatibility, SDS management, labeling (GHS), and spill prevention and response.
  • Fall Protection & Platform Access : Guarding, anchorage systems, ladder safety, elevated work platforms, and fall rescue planning.
  • Fire & Life Safety / Fire Code Compliance : Pallet storage configurations, egress, fire protection systems, hot work permits, and coordination with AHJs.
  • Confined Space : Permit-required confined space programs, entry procedures, rescue coordination, and training.
  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) : Machine-specific energy control procedures, audits, and employee authorization.
  • Machine Guarding : Risk-based assessments and safeguarding aligned with ANSI standards.
  • Environmental Compliance : Air, water, waste, and hazardous materials management; SPCC; stormwater; waste minimization; and sustainability initiatives.
  • Apply CI tools (Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen) to reduce EHS risk, improve compliance, and drive operational efficiency.
  • Analyze incident trends, near-miss data, and leading indicators to identify systemic issues and implement sustainable countermeasures.
  • Lead root cause investigations using structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Support safe equipment commissioning, decommissioning, and change management (MOC).
  • Develop and deploy robust EHS training programs for leaders, engineers, maintenance, and frontline employees.
  • Coach and mentor site EHS professionals and operational leaders to build strong technical capability and ownership.
  • Influence leadership behaviors to strengthen safety culture and accountability at all levels.
  • Lead or support serious incident investigations and ensure effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Oversee emergency response planning, drills, and coordination with local emergency responders.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of incidents, injuries, environmental releases, and regulatory submissions.
  • Oversee the Development of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to EHS, and operational efficiency
  • Develop, manage, and implement regulatory and safety frameworks for interdepartmental projects, and expansion projects.
