We are seeking a Senior Engineering Technician to join our team and work in our Development and Integration Laboratory in Lexington Park, MD. Specifically, we are looking for highly qualified candidates to support our team in the design, development, modification, and improvement of products and processes. This will include new designs, and reverse engineering obsolete designs to prototype, fabricate, assemble, test, document, and deliver to a wide variety of customers. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a quality-driven organization with electronics and mechanical engineering technician skills, and a high level of experience working on military avionics, communications, or electronics equipment, following quality management systems processes.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • DOD Secret clearance, or eligible to obtain clearance within 12 months.
  • Must have at least 5 years of experience working as an Engineering Technician directly supporting military avionics or electronics design, modifications, repair or related projects.
  • AA/AS Degree.
  • Additional experience may be accepted in lieu of a formal AA/AS degree (i.e., High School Diploma, related training in electronics or related advanced engineering technician course).
  • IPC 620 Certification & IPC-J-STD-001 Certification

  • IPC-620-CIT & J-STD-001 CIT
  • Experience with ISO-9001 and/or AS9100 Quality Management System (QMS) processes.
  • Experience with 3D CAD modeling engineering design software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Creo, MATLAB, etc.) to develop complex virtual concept designs.
  • Experience with soldering assembly of complex surface mount microelectronics onto Printed Circuit Board (PCB), ideally with IPC J-STD-001 certification.
  • Experience with assembly of military complex aircraft wire harnesses and cables using standard crimp tools and soldering practices iaw NAVAIR 01-1A-505-1 (SAE AS50881) Aerospace Vehicle Wiring, ideally with IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification.
  • Experience with subtractive manufacturing and additive manufacturing 3D printers.
  • Experience working in a small team performing tasks on multiple concurrent projects.
  • Experience assembling and documenting complex electronic avionics and weapon systems, and perform testing to verify the design meets military systems requirements.
  • Experience with repairing, maintaining and operating complex military avionics and weapons systems, inclusive of avionics racks and enclosures, cable harness assemblies, etc.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams, and SharePoint.

Responsibilities

  • Follow and assist in updating and establishing Safety and Quality Management System procedures and training, and mentor the team and other technicians.
  • Work with limited supervision and review of work, with occasional tasks to provide integration support at customer laboratories and spaces.
  • Provide creativity and sound judgment to supervisors to plan, estimate and accomplish work, resolve design and operational problems, and meet requirements, while completed work is reviewed for technical adequacy and meeting requirements.
  • Read, redline, and edit wiring diagrams, circuit schematics, mechanical drawings, parts lists, and engineering instructions for assembling and testing equipment.
  • Assist projects in various stages of design, material research and control, fabrication and prototyping, assembly and testing, and documentation and training to deliver models, prototypes, and end-items of devices, equipment, or systems to our customers.
  • Fabricate parts and assemblies in plastic, composite, and metal, solder microelectronics circuitry on Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs), wire electronic enclosures and racks, and build military cable harnesses.
  • Plan, conduct, record, and evaluate equipment test data, and draft reports of findings.
  • Troubleshoot and correct malfunctions using test equipment and redesign as necessary.
  • Plan, performing, and tracking tools, lab and measurement equipment operation and maintenance actions, repair, and calibration.
