About The Position

We are seeking a mission-driven Engineering Manager to lead the engineering efforts behind our billing platform and operations. This individual will support a team of engineers (6-10 members) focused on building and maintaining critical billing products and tools. The role will require close collaboration with product, commercial, finance, and operations teams to develop solutions that enable seamless revenue recognition, billing cycles, and client configurations. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, experience managing engineering teams, and familiarity with billing systems and processes. They should possess a deep understanding of data models, SQL, and data pipelines (e.g., Databricks) to ensure the accuracy and scalability of billing operations. This role will also require a strategic thinker who can identify opportunities to leverage AI to enhance billing systems and processes, ensuring they are robust and future-ready. You'll have the opportunity to hire, coach, and accelerate individual growth. You'll guide your team toward the right metrics and feedback loops to empower its continuous improvement. As an engineering leader you will be expected to know the ins and outs of your team's tech stack. Additionally we expect our leaders to spend ~15% of their time working in the code and merging pull requests regularly. We enjoy a continuous deployment DevOps culture, and take owner-operator pride in supporting our code in production with an on-call rotation. Rotations vary by team. Our production systems rely on React Native, React, Node.js, TypeScript, Nest.js, GraphQL, Docker, Kubernetes, Rails, AWS, Postgres, Redis, Apollo, and Redux. Our workflow is trunk-based CI/CD, and our security/compliance posture is at the highest standards of healthcare, including HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC 2, and CCPA. Hinge Health Hybrid Model We believe that remote work and in-person work have their own advantages and disadvantages, and we want to be able to leverage the best of both worlds. Employees in hybrid roles are required to be in the office 3 days per week, for the full 8 hours of a typical business day. The San Francisco office has a dog-friendly workplace program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering or related technical field
  • 10+ years of experience in the technology industry, with a focus on SaaS products and large-scale, complex systems
  • 5+ years of experience managing a team of 5+ engineers
  • 4+ years of programming experience in a programming language such as Python, Node.js, TypeScript, AWS, and modern frameworks like ReactJS

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with billing products, scaling contractual variations, and supporting financial systems in a SaaS or healthcare environment
  • 4+ years of experience in Relational Database Systems. Proficiency in PostgresSQL, understanding data models, and experience with data pipelines is a plus
  • Knowledge of healthcare billing practices and compliance requirements (e.g., HIPAA, HITRUST)
  • Proven track record of leading technical projects and process improvements in complex organizational environments
  • Effective conflict resolution and resource management skills to navigate challenging tradeoffs
  • Ability to creatively leverage AI to solve complex problems and enhance billing operations

Responsibilities

  • Lead Billing: Manage the engineering team responsible for revenue-related billing systems, including key integrations across quote-to-cash, invoicing, and reconciliation.
  • Foster High-Performance Teams: Ensure strong team performance through coaching, mentorship, and by fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture.
  • Drive the Delivery Process: Oversee planning workflows such as backlog grooming, sprint prioritization, and retrospectives to ensure consistent, high-quality delivery-while continuously improving system reliability, developer velocity, and code quality.
  • Enable Cross-Functional Alignment: Partner with finance, product, operations, and GTM teams to deeply understand revenue workflows and deliver systems that support accurate invoicing, compliance, and strategic business decisions.
  • Leverage Data and AI: Apply strong data skills and AI-driven approaches to develop solutions across the revenue lifecycle-including invoicing, revenue recognition, and quote-to-cash automation.
  • Scale the Team: Support hiring and resource planning with a focus on diversity, technical excellence, and long-term team health.
