This is what you need to know: Type One Energy is seeking a Senior Engineer with experience in wall conditioning to join its growing team. As a Senior Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the wall conditioning system on our advanced fusion stellarator including development, deployment and operation. Your expertise will be instrumental in driving progress and ensuring the successful operation of our stellarator critical to achieving our research and commercial goals. The ideal candidate will also give technical advice across a variety of similar projects throughout Type One Energy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Applied Physics or a related discipline (PhD is a plus).
  • 10 plus years of experience in vacuum technology, high power electronics and materials processing
  • Proven experience leading surface and wall conditioning projects in high-performance environments (e.g., semiconductor, aerospace, nuclear, or research labs).
  • Proficient with CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, NX) and simulation software relevant to wall conditioning.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to communicate effectively across technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience with tritium and/or other radiological aspects of wall coatings and in-vessel components is desired.
  • PhD is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Own the architecture, design, and system-level integration of wall conditioning systems, from initial concept through operational deployment.
  • Lead the wall conditioning system architecture for stellarator devices, including glow discharge cleaning, wall coating such as boronization, and potentially other techniques
  • Define system requirements and translate them into detailed specifications for in-vessel and ex-vessel components
  • Lead wall conditioning-related trade studies, risk analyses, and system-level design reviews.
  • Collaborate closely with plasma physics, vacuum, fueling, electrical, thermal-fluid and structural teams to ensure coherent integration of the wall conditioning hardware within the stellarator geometry.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for wall conditioning, mentoring junior engineers and reviewing their work for technical accuracy.
  • Ensure all wall conditioning system designs meet industry and safety standards
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives and implement best practices for vacuum system design and maintenance.
