About The Position

NextEra Energy is seeking a highly skilled Senior Engineer to join the Solar SCADA Engineering group within the Engineering & Construction department. This role is critical to the successful deployment and standardization of SCADA systems across NextEra's growing solar project portfolio. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise with a drive for innovation, including the integration of AI capabilities into existing automation frameworks. Employees in this role are responsible for performing engineering assignments of a complex nature requiring the application of engineering skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in SCADA engineering, preferably within the energy or utilities sector
  • Extensive hands-on experience with Ignition Perspective (Inductive Automation), including screen development, scripting, and tag architecture
  • Deep expertise with the Novatech Orion product family, including RTU configuration and point structure development
  • Proficiency with Kepware or Top Server OPC products, including driver configuration and data modeling
  • Strong understanding of OPC-UA / OPC-DA communication standards
  • Bachelor’s - Engineering
  • Experience: 4+ years
  • Valid Driver's License (NON CDL)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with solar generation or utility-scale renewable energy projects
  • Experience with PLC programming (e.g., IEC 61131-3 structured text or ladder logic)
  • Familiarity with AI/ML integration in industrial or OT environments
  • Knowledge of NERC CIP cybersecurity standards as they apply to OT systems
  • Experience with Python or similar scripting languages for automation tool development
  • Certified Professional Engineer (PE)

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end SCADA system deployment for solar projects across the portfolio, from design through commissioning
  • Develop and maintain automation tools that drive efficiency and standardization within the SCADA engineering team
  • Support and advance AI integration with the department's existing AI platform, identifying opportunities to enhance system intelligence and operational performance
  • Configure and program Novatech Orion RTUs, establishing and maintaining standards for point structure and data organization across all projects
  • Develop and enforce SCADA point naming and data structure standards to ensure consistency fleet-wide
  • Configure and manage Kepware / Top Server OPC servers, including tag structure, communication drivers, and data connectivity
  • Collaborate with project teams, controls engineers, and IT/OT stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle
  • Contribute to the development of Functional Requirements Documents (FRDs) and technical specifications
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and site commissioning activities
  • Mentor junior engineers and support knowledge sharing across the team
  • Plans and organizes projects
  • Applies highly specialized knowledge in carrying out work
  • Provides technical support to lower level professionals
  • Performs other job-relate duties as assigned
