Otto Aerospace is seeking a Senior Engineer, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) to be a member of our team. The ideal candidate has relevant experience in NDT and a willingness to learn. Otto Aerospace is seeking engineers, who are comfortable working from first principles, work great in a team atmosphere and get things done. The successful candidate will join the Materials and Processes department. This department advises on material selection and associated best practices, properties and allowables. They also author governing documents, test documents, and specifications related to materials and processes to be consumed in the design, fabrication, assembly, inspection and repair of Otto aircraft. Additionally, the department interfaces with manufacturing suppliers, ensuring all efforts related to materials and processes conform to Otto prescribed requirements.

  • Provide guidance on matters relating to inspection of metallic and non-metallic structure using NDT techniques.
  • Develop, qualify and implement NDT inspection processes for composite parts and bonded joints using ultrasonic, x-ray, thermal or other state of the art methods.
  • Develop, qualify and implement NDT inspection processes for metallic parts using the appropriate choice of liquid penatrant, magnetic particle, eddy current or other state of the art methods.
  • Author, review and approve NDT process specifications, technique sheets, inspection plans and reports.
  • Review and approve engineering definition for release in the product lifecycle system (PLM).
  • Review, guide and support programs for new, supplemental and experimental certification under 14 CFR Part 23 sub part C & D.
  • Mentor junior team members.
  • B.S. in Material Science, Physics, related Engineering discipline, or equivalent
  • 7+ years of relevant industry experience (or 5+ with M.S.)
  • Knowledge of industry standard NDT processes for non-metallic (required) and metallic (a plus) inspection
  • ASNT Level II or III certification (a plus)
  • Experience with NDT process review, selection, development, and certification in aerospace applications for non-metallic (required) and metallic (a plus) materials
  • Experience related to non-metallic materials manufacturing defects and relation to structural integrity
  • Experience authoring NDT inspection plans and findings reports
  • Experience planning, executing and documenting NDT inspections, including managing data collection, interpretation and validation
  • Knowledge of FAR Part 23 certification requirements and processes
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Must be able to stand on feet and walk around for extended periods of time, sit at desk for prolonged periods of time and work on computer, and must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.
