About The Position

American Rheinmetall provides quality products and services at affordable prices through a lean organizational structure and four facilities, three in Michigan that span 910,000 square feet, and one in Ohio, that span 800,000+ square feet. The Plymouth, MI facility serves as corporate headquarters and specializes in suspension, driveline, and track systems. The Lansing and Lapeer Michigan based facilities specialize in fabrications and armor product solutions. American Rheinmetall's St. Mary’s, Ohio facility manufactures rubber track products for agricultural, construction, and defense industries. FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Job Title: MPI Nondestructive Testing Technician Department: Production Summary Tests and inspects products at various stages of production process with an emphasis on nondestructive testing. Sets up and operates Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) equipment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Responsibilities

  • Review’s part prints, procedures and work instructions to complete testing.
  • Inspects chemically treated metallic and nonmetallic parts and assemblies under fluorescent or black lighting for defects, such as fissures, weld breaks, or fractures, using magnetic particle or fluid penetrant inspection processes and equipment, using either of following methods:
  • Immerses or sprays ferrous magnetic metal parts with iron oxide solution.
  • Sets up and performs nondestructive tests on materials, parts, or products to measure performance, life, or material characteristics:
  • Positions parts between electrodes of magnetic testing equipment and activates switch to induce magnetic field that attracts and accumulates iron oxide particles at defective points.
  • Immerses or sprays nonmagnetic metal or nonmetallic parts with fluid penetrant solution.
  • Rinses excess solution from parts.
  • Examines parts under fluorescent or black lighting to detect defects at or near part surfaces indicated by thick deposits of iron oxide particles or reflection of penetrant solutions.
  • Removes surface defects, using hand tools, power tools, or abrasive solutions, or mark’s part defects for repair or discard depending on nature and extent of defects.
  • Notifies supervisor of defective processing of parts or materials.
  • Ensures that equipment operates correctly.
  • Ensures compliance to the process for the Control of Records and Document Control Process.
