About The Position

We are seeking a highly motivated, capable Senior Accounting Analyst to work in our Energy Accounting team. In this role, you demonstrate strong analytical skills, take initiative, and have a detail-oriented eye when working through large data sets. You should possess clear and concise communication skills in addition to strong writing skills. This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and the Oakland General Office 1-2x a week or based on business needs and company requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field or equivalent work experience
  • 4 years of recent relevant accounting experience
  • Strong technical accounting skills

  • Excellent research and issue-resolution skills
  • Ability to assess and recommend solutions for moderate to complex projects
  • Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language for data analysis (Python, R)

  • Able to present analysis and findings in a cohesive, understandable, and actionable format to department management
  • Understanding of programs, policy, and operations to advise businesses on the meaning of data, results
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge of technical/professional concepts

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and develops monthly reports and provides records of assets, liabilities, and other transactions.
  • Participate in the month-end closing process, including journal entry preparation.
  • Prepares monthly account reconciliations for complex/high-risk accounts, including communications with appropriate internal and external business partners to understand/resolve reconciling items.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, SOX, SEC, and other regulatory requirements in all data management and reporting activities.
  • Ability to analyze regulatory decisions and determine financial impacts.
  • Analyze and interpret large, complex financial datasets using advanced analytics tools (e.g., Snowflake, Power BI, Alteryx, Python, R).
  • Translates complex data findings into actionable tasks and projects through strong communication and storytelling.
  • Lead process improvement and automation initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Provides supporting documentation and explanations to internal and external parties.
  • May manage projects or initiatives.
