About The Position

You will be a member of the Collins Product Cybersecurity Organization (PCO) supporting strategic and protected communication systems programs. We are a growing business developing new products in an aggressive and competitive market. The new designs are exciting and technically challenging. The Product Cybersecurity is hiring a Senior Embedded System Security Engineer to support programs for our US military and various international customers, keeping the world safe from foreign threats. This team supports multiple Collins contracts and is seeking to fill roles across several open contracts – our goal is to align each new hire with a position that best suits their skills and allows for career growth. The ideal candidate will be skilled in requirement allocation and decomposition, analyzing system architectures, designing security features and principles, assessing security vulnerabilities (scanning), and formal cybersecurity test and evaluation (CT&E). The candidate will report to the Senior Manager of Cybersecurity Engineering and work collaboratively with cross-functional engineering teams on the program they support.

Requirements

  • Experience with Risk Management Framework (RMF) applied to Mission Systems used in disconnected DoD environments
  • Familiarity with general technical security concepts, technologies, and implementations
  • Strong technical writing skills and ability to develop security documentation. Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform deep dives into system requirements
  • Ability to interpret system models, diagrams, and architectures to assess security risks
  • Willingness to learn about satellite systems, communication systems, and evolving security technologies
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
  • Active and transferable SECRET clearance is required prior to start date
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with National Security Agency (NSA) cryptographic certification, Cross Domain Solution (CDS) requirements, and National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP)

  • Familiarity with DOORS, JIRA, Confluence, Cameo (MBSE experience), or other systems modeling and agile tools

  • Prior experience working with security protocols used in embedded systems and communications for aerospace environments
  • Familiarity with DoD focused security assessment tools, e.g. SCC, NMAP, Evaluate-STIG, Nessus, ACAS, Vulnerator, eMASSster, etc.
  • Active and transferable TOP SECRET clearance

Responsibilities

  • Support system certification and accreditation efforts, including Risk Management Framework (RMF) Authorization To Operate (ATO) and National Security Agency (NSA) Type 1 Cryptographic Certification
  • Support cybersecurity requirement decomposition, allocation, implementation, and verification utilizing system engineering practices
  • Analyze system requirements, models, and diagrams to identify potential security vulnerabilities
  • Participate in system design discussions and provide security engineering input
  • Collaborate with systems engineers and developers to integrate security considerations into system design
  • Work as part of a team, contributing to a culture of collaboration and continuous learning
  • Maintain awareness of evolving security threats and industry best practices
  • Participate in Security focused-System Verification and Validation including writing test plans and procedures, performing test conduct, and providing remediation recommendation analysis
