About The Position

Collins Aerospace is seeking a qualified algorithms Principal Systems Engineer for the Joint Precision Approach and Landing System (JPALS) program. This is a senior engineering position for an individual with educational and/or professional experience in the development of requirements and maintenance for Global Positioning System (GPS) Navigation Systems Programs. This is a lead position which requires frequent interface with the program management team and customer. This individual will be required to oversee tasking for requirements, maintenance and generation. The work is technical, and the individual must be comfortable with working with equations and general algorithm description language. The successful candidate must be able to work on individual tasks under limited supervision, or with a team to achieve operational targets and must have the ability to communicate and collaborate with parties within and outside of own job function. Eventually the candidate may be responsible for helping to provide guidance, coaching and training to other employees within their job area.

Requirements

  • Proficiency using IBM Rational DOORS
  • Proficient with Digital Engineering Tools (DOORS, Cameo, Microsoft Office Suite, Jira, Confluence)
  • Experience with system and sub-system level requirements and verification documentation methods
  • Proficiency in Systems Engineering Requirements Activities: requirement derivation, interface allocations, systems integration, requirement sell off, requirements analysis, procedure development, test development, test execution and evaluation of results
  • Experience generating and maintaining technical documentation, such as specifications, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), Test Requirement Documents (TRDs), and Verification Cross Reference Matrices
  • Experience generating technical documentation and managing projects
  • Proficient skills in written and oral communication
  • Proficient in working well in teams and multi-tasking
  • Lead team in technical discussions and facilitate key decision making
  • Experience in performing Risk & Opportunity management
  • Experience with Engineering Lifecycle Optimization (ELO) - Publishing
  • Willingness to travel
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Support the JPALS and JPALS adjacent programs.
  • Lead defining system design requirements, including derived requirements, from customers.
  • Lead small team of requirements systems engineers.
  • Oversee and guide technical direction to understand, analyze, and develop the models, requirements, and designs using enterprise standard tools, processes, and industry best practices.
  • Interface with multidisciplinary teams to achieve full product design (including hardware, software and firmware engineering).
  • Use/develop scripts to automate the upload and download of documentation to and from Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System (DOORS) in a variety of formats
  • Provide status and participate in management review meetings.
  • Provide technical guidance and oversight of requirements-based tasking.
  • Prepare presentations and brief customers during Systems Engineering Technical Review (SETR) events, formal reviews and focus groups meetings.
  • Some travel.
