About The Position

GovFirst is seeking an experienced and technically proficient Senior Electronics Technician to support onsite transportation and traffic systems operations in Hampton, Virginia. This role is responsible for the diagnosis, repair, fabrication, installation, and preventive maintenance of complex electronic and electromechanical systems supporting Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), traffic control, communications, and security infrastructure. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical expertise, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to maintaining safe and reliable transportation systems.Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of electronic theory and applied electronics.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting complex electronic, communication, and networked systems.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team -oriented environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experienced with electronic and fiber optic test equipment.
  • Comfortable working with IP -based networks and computer systems.
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, program, modify, diagnose, and repair complex electronic and electromechanical equipment associated with Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and traffic control systems.
  • Support and maintain equipment including traffic signal controllers, instrumentation, telemetry systems, computers, video systems, fiber optic infrastructure, security systems, and associated control equipment.
  • Perform troubleshooting and preventive maintenance on transportation -related electronic devices, including but not limited to:
  • Dynamic/changeable message signs
  • Closed -circuit television (CCTV) cameras
  • Pan -Tilt -Zoom (PTZ) devices
  • Video encoders and decoders
  • Ethernet switches and IP -based networks
  • Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
  • Fiber optic, wireless, twisted pair, and Ethernet -over -IP communication systems
  • Maintain and troubleshoot communication, video, and network systems supporting roadway and traffic operations.
  • Utilize electronic and fiber optic test equipment, hand tools, and power tools to identify and correct system deficiencies.
  • Read, interpret, and work from technical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and system displays.
  • Apply principles of electronic theory to diagnose and resolve complex system issues.
  • Provide technical assistance to Traffic Systems Technicians and Traffic Signal Technicians as required.
  • Communicate clearly with supervisors, project management, and technical staff regarding system status and repairs.
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to maintenance, repairs, and system performance.
  • Operate personal computers and relevant software applications in support of system maintenance and reporting.
  • Operate various motor vehicles and specialized trucks, including platform and bucket trucks.
  • Climb communication towers and elevated structures to inspect and repair cameras and communications equipment.
  • Participate in emergency call -back rotations and respond during off -hours as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by a Supervisor or Senior Project Manager.
