About The Position

We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our federal team at our York, PA location. This position is responsible for the design, qualification, and maintenance of control systems for Johnson Controls Navy Systems (JCNS) manufactured HVAC&R equipment and Windows® applications on US and foreign naval combatants. Control system electrical hardware and system wiring development are the core responsibilities of this position, but an understanding of software control operation will also be required to the extent necessary to ensure that system requirements are met. Requirements

  • Must have the ability and willingness to obtain and maintain an active DoD security clearance.
  • Candidate must have at least seven (4) years of work experience.
  • Ability to travel within the United States to resolve equipment operational problems onboard US Navy ships, or to support third party testing laboratories. The extent of travel is estimated at less than 10%.
  • Experience with design and packaging of electronic and electrical components.
  • Experience with writing and interpreting electrical specifications.
  • Familiarity with control system technologies that include: Electronic and electro-mechanical controls, fractional HP to 500 HP motors, variable frequency drives and other types of motor controllers, magnetic bearing controllers, microprocessor and support circuitry, programmable controllers, discrete circuitry, digital logic, actuators, relays, solenoids, displays and other visual indicators, sensors, switches, analog signal conditioning, and digital communications such as EIA-STD-RS232, EIA-STD-RS485, Ethernet IP, Profibus, and multicast Ethernet.
  • An understanding of software control operation is required to the extent necessary to ensure that system requirements are met.
  • Ability to communicate technical information in written, verbal, and graphical form in a clear and precise manner.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced performance and reliability driven, team-oriented environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with military product development is highly desirable.
  • General knowledge of printed circuit board design and manufacture is desirable.
  • Familiarity with good design practices for equipment required to operate in challenging electromagnetic interference (EMI), shock, and vibration environments is desirable.
  • Experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, test, production, and the installed base of the control systems for JCNS manufactured equipment.
  • Lead prototype and production Navy qualification testing by troubleshooting control system issues, recording, and reviewing test data, altering the hardware as required, and reporting software design issues.
  • Perform work in accordance with JCNS, JCI, commercial, and military procedures and standards.
  • Lead development of control panel and other electrical hardware specifications to meet application and customer requirements.
  • Lead system wiring design of JCNS products with responsibilities including selection of wiring, junction boxes, fusing, circuit breakers, sensors, solenoids, actuators, motor protection function, and other devices required to meet unit performance requirements.
  • Design and supervise building of test fixtures required for software development stations and testing of products.
  • Work with Design team and other engineers to create system wiring drawings, wiring and connection diagrams (schematics), part descriptions and drawings, test standards, theory of operation write-ups, and other documentation.
  • Troubleshoot and correct problems with units on the production floor, on test blocks, at vendor facilities, and in the field, including handling electrical field service calls. Work towards continuous improvement by implementing documentation and procedural changes to correct issues found.
  • Provide input to project resources and cost estimates.
  • Additional responsibilities will be assigned according to hardware skills and experience.
  • Occasional higher-level responsibilities will be assigned under supervision of managers or team mentors
