About Austin-Bergstrom International Airport Owned by the City of Austin and operated by the Department of Aviation, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is an economic engine, supplying over 74,000 direct and indirect jobs in the Central Texas region. May serve as Chief Audit Executive for a City department. Completes auditing work which includes investigating, reviewing, and analyzing financial information, internal controls, operational performance, and management practices to ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures and local, state, and federal laws, statutes, and guidelines. Job Description: Purpose: Under limited direction, this position directs, plans, and coordinates the work activities of multiple maintenance-related functional areas of the Department of Aviation. Duties, Functions and Responsibilities: Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned. Directs and oversees the implementation and performance management of various functions, processes, performance enhancements, short- and long-range business plans/goals/objectives, etc. for multiple maintenance division/areas. Oversees and manages managerial level personnel who are responsible for ensuring maintenance divisions/areas operate efficient and effectively. Develops, directs, evaluates, improves, and promotes the Business Plan for the division. Oversees and manages divisional involvement in capital improvement project deliverables. Collaborates and participates in the strategic planning process for the department. Organizes, coordinates, and implements crisis management response plans and operations with various agencies. Develops, manages, and monitors operating budgets for multiple maintenance divisions/areas.. Performs contract management, negotiation, and procurement duties and responsibilities, i.e., approval/denial of recommendations for purchases, monitoring of purchases, etc. Liaisons with an array of City departments, consultants, contractors, business managers, and governmental agencies. Conducts presentations to advisory boards, County/State/Federal officials, vendors, contractors, and the general public. Ensures compliance with governmental regulations, ordinances, directives, etc. Exhibits exceptional customer service, establishes and maintains working relationships, and utilizes analytical and problem-solving techniques and skills. Performs administrative tasks, communicates both verbally and in writing, and researches data/information, etc.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of modern management principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of Local, State, and Federal rules and regulations pertaining to assigned divisions.
  • Knowledge of contract administration and budgeting methods and systems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the concepts of equity, including experience in applying equity frameworks to established laws, ordinances, and long-standing practices.
  • Skill in developing and implementing long- and short-range plans, goals, and objectives.
  • Skill in executing results-oriented business plans and preparing budgets.
  • Skill in developing and implementing business processes.
  • Skill in coordinating various functions and processes.
  • Skill in managing the activities of personnel engaged in assigned functions.

  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with the department; tenants; business managers; other City departments; and county, City, State, and Federal agencies.
  • Ability to oversee multiple maintenance functions simultaneously.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, tact, and diplomacy in all dealings and in maintaining confidentiality.
  • Ability to use an equity lens and framework to create inclusive, diverse, and safe workplaces and community programs.
  • Ability to manage diversity, understand inclusion, and work with diverse communities or populations to build constructive and effective relationships.
  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Public or Business Administration, Business or Aviation Management, or a related field, plus six (6) years of relevant work experience, including two (2) years of experience which were in a managerial/supervisory capacity.
  • Any combination of education and/or work experience will substitute for the minimum qualifications.
  • Valid State of Texas Class “C” Driver License.
  • This position must travel between various locations as part of the regular job duties and the individual will be required to drive a City vehicle.
  • Position will also be required to drive on the AOA.
  • Successful candidate must be in possession of a Texas driver's license as authorized by the Texas Transportation Code.
  • A driving record verification will be conducted.
  • Applicants for positions for which City driving is an essential function must meet the standards of the program: age 18 or older, current applicable driver’s license, proof of insurability and no more than six (6) points assessed on Driver Record Evaluation (DRE) based on Department of Public Safety's (DPS) Driver Record Report.
  • This position falls under the COA safe driver program requirements.
  • Must have the ability to read, write, and fluently speak in English.
