The Senior Director, Strategy & Business Development plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of Pfizer’s GH&B portfolio. This role is designed for speed and depth—tackling discrete strategic questions, segment assessments, and business development opportunities that require senior judgment and tight integration across functions. The leader oversees a team that acts as a catalyst for insight generation, strategic optionality, and external value creation, ensuring Pfizer’s choices are informed, future focused, and aligned to enterprise priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degrees (PhD, PharmD, MBA, etc.) preferred
  • 12+ years of broad pharmaceutical experience in commercial development/product development/marketing/operations/strategy
  • Proven ability to deliver results in complex, matrixed, and fast-paced environments.
  • Demonstrated success building, leading, and developing high performing, resilient teams. ‑performing, resilient teams.
  • Strong influencing skills with a track record of driving enterprise impact through collaboration and clear decision-making.
  • Evidence of diverse leadership capabilities, including coaching, talent development, cross-functional leadership, and the ability to guide teams toward meaningful business outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and lead a new strategic & business development capability within the GH&B Portfolio Team, building a function that accelerates enterprise-wide strategic insight generation and strengthens Pfizer’s ability to identify and shape high value external opportunities.
  • Foster a culture of high performance, agility, and strategic rigor, developing team capability and strengthening cross functional collaboration to enhance Pfizer’s enterprise strategic muscle.
  • Serve as a key member of the GH&B Portfolio Leadership Team, influencing strategic direction, setting portfolio priorities, and shaping long-term growth pathways that drive enterprise value.
  • Direct end-to-end strategic assessments of market segments, capabilities, and competitive dynamics, producing insights that directly inform enterprise decision-making and guide resource allocation.
  • Oversee identification, evaluation, and engagement of external companies and partners, shaping early stage opportunities and strengthening the pipeline of strategically relevant external options.
  • Develop clear strategic narratives, insights, and recommendations to inform leadership decision-making.
  • Provide strategic and commercial leadership in external opportunity evaluation, ensuring rigorous assessment of strategic fit, value potential, and enterprise implications to support BD advancement and prioritization.
  • Partner with Portfolio Management to align external opportunities with internal portfolio optimization goals, strengthening balanced investment decisions and maximizing portfolio impact.
  • Lead multiple high intensity, timebound strategic projects, ensuring high quality outputs delivered with speed, clarity, and senior-level judgment that accelerate strategy execution.
  • Apply strong judgment and simplification to complex issues, enabling leaders to navigate ambiguity, focus on the highest impact drivers, and reduce time to decision.
  • Models future oriented, holistic strategy development, ensuring recommendations are both visionary and grounded in execution realities to support successful implementation.
