About The Position

The Sr. Director of Project Development supports the interface between the Finance and Commercial teams to help facilitate the project-level financing, capital markets engagement, and commercial-contract integration to enable successful capital project financing objectives. This role owns project-level reporting, budgeting and forecasting for construction and development, prepares investor- and board ‑ level materials, supports project financing processes, and translates commercial and contractual terms into financing inputs. This role serves as the conduit between the projects team and the Capital Formation/Finance teams as necessary.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Engineering, Economics or related discipline required. MBA strongly preferred. A minimum of ten (10) years direct work experience in a similar type of role may be considered as a substitute for a degree.
  • Experience: Minimum 10+ years’ direct experience in project execution, commercial, project development, financial, legal or transactional roles in energy or infrastructure sectors.
  • Hands-on project finance experience: due diligence, modeling, terms and conditions, and investor/lender negotiations.
  • Strong understanding of EPC, O&M, supply, offtake contracts and the practical implications on schedule, cost and insurability.
  • Proven ability to liaise effectively across Commercial, Project Execution and Investor groups and to influence contractual inputs that protect financing outcomes.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient level financial modeling skills (project-level models and concepts, cashflow waterfalls, sensitivity/scenario analysis) and advanced Excel proficiency.
  • Strong PowerPoint and narrative development skills suitable for investor and Board presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Act as liaison between Capital Markets, FP&A, Treasury, Commercial, and Project Management & Execution teams — own and deliver periodic project reporting to achieve the commercial commitments, schedule, project budgeting/forecasting, risk allocation, and customer commitments throughout the project lifecycle and report the progress for internal and external reporting as necessary.
  • Support and represent the Project Teams to coordinate with the Capital Markets/Project Finance Team during the project financing process, including support to the teams for the preparation of presentation materials for lenders, rating agencies, and investors.
  • Represent projects as necessary in investor, lender and financial meetings; present clear, credible narratives of the project-level details in support of the project schedule and budget, risks and mitigations, demonstrating intimate knowledge of project costs, spend curves, cancellation penalties, insurance, and contingency mechanics
  • Interface, liaison, and translate for the Project Teams and during development process the scrutiny required by project finance, including ensuring resolution of any diligence questions in support of the financing and commercial actions.
  • Assess and articulate how project execution contracts interface and potentially influence financing viability and customer commitments; provide support of and data to negotiate and establish contract-structure to understand, comply with and inform project financing and risk allocation.
  • Support the coordination of cross-functional diligence and deliverables (technical, legal, insurance, tax, commercial) for lenders and investors and represent the Project Team’s accountability during those processes; assist with the management of timetables, remediate risk items and drive to financing milestones and closings.
