The Senior Director Principal Gifts plays a critical role in maintaining the overall management of the Philanthropy Department. This position requires a managing generalist who understands how to effectively communicate and foster relationships with prospects and donors. A caregiver in this position works a hybrid schedule from Main Campus, Monday-Friday from 8:00AM – 5:00PM.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • A minimum of 12 years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising, direct solicitation and capital campaign environment required.
  • Transferrable skills such as business development or sales may offset some but not all of the required work experience.
  • Demonstrated success and experience in strategies for donor cultivation and direct solicitation and closing of gifts over $5M required.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the vision and implementation of strategies for the generation of principal gift level funds for Cleveland Clinic priorities.
  • Manage a principal prospect portfolio with a focus on matching the prospect’s philanthropic interests with the needs and priorities of Cleveland Clinic.
  • Achieve significant dollar goals and is responsible for the success of initiatives for capital, programmatic, research, endowment and operating support for Cleveland Clinic.
  • Establish a program of personal visits with past, current and prospective high-level donors, as appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with development teams to develop and manage engagement, solicitation and stewardship strategies for high-capacity prospective donors.
  • Engage central services teams to develop events, communications, and stewardship, for the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship needed to advance principal gifts.
  • Ensure that donors are properly advised as to the financial options available, projects and needs.
  • Develop funding proposals to match donor interests with Cleveland Clinic priorities.
  • Mentor and guide other development officers on principal gift strategy.
  • Other duties as assigned.
