ROLE OVERVIEW and PURPOSE Under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer, the Senior Director of Philanthropy provides visionary leadership and strategic direction for Neighborhood Healthcare’s (NH) philanthropic initiatives, including capital campaigns, endowment growth, and planned giving programs. This position focuses on cultivating transformational donor relationships, mentoring the development team, and driving innovative strategies to achieve sustainable philanthropic growth. The Senior Director collaborates closely with organizational leadership, Philanthropy Council members, and community partners to strengthen Neighborhood Healthcare’s presence, foster community engagement, and secure critical funding to advance the organization’s mission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • 8 years of progressive leadership experience in fundraising, advancement, or external affairs is required
  • A commitment to the mission of Neighborhood Healthcare – to improve the health and happiness of the communities they serve by providing quality care to all, regardless of situation or circumstance.
  • Demonstrated experience securing major gifts and leading comprehensive fundraising and capital campaign initiatives.
  • An ability to work successfully and effectively with a wide range of constituents and manage complex relationships.
  • A strong commitment to personal and professional development, with a history of motivating, training and managing a staff with diverse skills and experience.
  • Ability to analyze data and trends to optimize fundraising strategies and donor outreach.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including superior composition, typing and proofreading skills.
  • Knowledge about and experience with facilitating complex projects to produce the desired outcome.

Responsibilities

  • LEAD STRATEGIC FUNDRAISING INITIATIVES Set the strategic vision for all philanthropic efforts, including major gifts, planned to give, capital campaigns, and annual giving programs; and Operate effectively in the five key areas of philanthropy: identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of the donor base.
  • DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT OPERATIONAL PLANS Create short- and long-term operational plans targeting philanthropic growth, aligning them with the organization’s strategic objectives; and Build a roadmap for sustainable revenue generation through diverse funding streams, including individual, corporate, and foundation giving.
  • PROVIDE LEADERSHIP FOR CAPITAL CAMPAIGNS Design and oversee all aspects of capital campaigns, from feasibility studies and donor prospecting to execution and completion; and Partner with staff and committees to ensure campaigns meet or exceed established goals.
  • BUILD AND STRENGTHEN DONOR RELATIONSHIPS Develop and implement strategies for identifying and cultivating private and corporate donors, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities; and Cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with major donors, corporate partners, and foundations to secure transformational gifts.
  • EXPAND ENDOWMENT AND PLANNED GIVING PROGRAMS Develop and execute strategies to grow the organization’s endowment and planned giving programs, with a focus on community and employee participation; and Build sustainable funding models that align with long-term organizational goals and donor interests.
  • OVERSEE HIGH-LEVEL DONOR STEWARDSHIP & RECOGNITION PROGRAMS Lead comprehensive donor recognition and stewardship programs to enhance donor satisfaction and long-term engagement; and Ensure personalized, high-touch approaches to donor communication, focusing on major contributors and planned giving participants.
  • COLLABORATE WITH NH LEADERSHIP & PHILANTHROPY COUNCIL Work closely with key NH staff, Philanthropy Council members, and committees to further development goals and philanthropic initiatives; and Provide training and guidance to Executive Leadership and Philanthropy Council members, enabling them to act as effective ambassadors for fundraising efforts.
  • DRIVE INNOVATION AND BEST PRACTICES IN PHILANTHROPY Leverage innovative fundraising techniques and data-driven strategies to enhance donor engagement and campaign outcomes; and Stay informed on industry trends, introducing forward-thinking practices to the organization’s philanthropic efforts.
  • ALIGN FUNDRAISING WITH BRAND & MISSION ADVANCEMENT Serve as a key ambassador for the organization, articulating the mission and vision to external stakeholders to inspire support; and Collaborate with marketing and communications teams to create impactful messaging and materials that enhance fundraising success.
  • GUIDE STRATEGIC DONOR EVENTS AND CAMPAIGNS Provide high-level oversight of donor-focused events, including campaign launches, appreciation receptions, and major gift celebrations; and Ensure all events align with philanthropic goals and offer meaningful engagement opportunities for donors.
  • MONITOR AND REPORT FUNDRAISING PERFORMANCE Develop metrics to evaluate the success of fundraising efforts, providing executive-level reports on achievements, opportunities, and challenges; and Ensure accountability and transparency in all philanthropic activities and reporting.
  • LEAD BUDGET PLANNING AND RESOURCE ALLOCATION Oversee the development department budget, ensuring efficient resource allocation to achieve fundraising and campaign goals; and Identify opportunities to enhance efficiency and maximize return on investment in philanthropic initiatives.
  • PROVIDE LEADERSHIP, MANAGEMENT, AND SUPERVISION Mentor and guide the development team, delegating day-to-day responsibilities while focusing on strategic leadership and goal setting. Monitor team progress and ensure alignment with overall fundraising strategies and organizational vision. Ensure the highest levels of business practices are in place and continuously monitor workflows and processes. Is responsible for workforce planning for own departments, including job description revision and/or development, and interview and select staff in conjunction with human resources. Provide coaching, training, and staff development feedback to employees; and Complete performance evaluations and execute disciplinary actions as needed consistent with NH process and timeline.
