About The Position

Full-time position under the Management Personnel Plan (MPP) available on or after March 16, 2026 for Student Records. This position's responsibilities are carried out independently under general supervision of Associate Vice President. The Senior Director of Undergraduate Advising is responsible for institution-wide leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight for undergraduate academic advising and integrated student success initiatives. The incumbent is responsible for achieving the University's goals for student retention, persistence, timely graduation, and equitable educational outcomes, and serves as a key member of the Enrollment Management leadership team. The Senior Director has responsibility for the Advising & Success Center (ASC), the Graduation Advisors and Evaluator, and the Director of Student Support Systems. The position coordinates undergraduate academic advising and degree progress support functions serving students from entry through graduation. The role works in collaboration with Enrollment Services leadership, including the Registrar/Student Records, and with academic colleges on advising-related policies, degree progress infrastructure, and student success initiatives. The position provides leadership for academic advising structures and practices, including alignment with the CSU Chancellor's Office Student Success Framework.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in higher education administration, Counseling, Student Affairs, Business/Public administration, or a related field.
  • Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in academic advising, student success, or enrollment management roles, including five years of supervisory experience.

  • 5+ years of experience leading or managing a centralized or hybrid undergraduate advising model serving multiple colleges or academic units.
  • 5+ years of functional leadership experience with enterprise advising technologies (e.g., EAB Navigate, PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, Degree Audit/DARS).
  • 5+ years of experience supervising professional staff, including oversight of multiple teams or units.
  • Demonstrated experience using student success data or dashboards to inform advising strategy or program improvement.
  • Experience leading or co-leading a major advising redesign or student success initiative with cross­ divisional collaboration.
  • Working knowledge of CSU academic policies or enrollment management practices, demonstrated through prior administrative roles or committee service.
  • Demonstrated leadership in designing, implementing, or managing academic advising programs or campus-wide student success initiatives, consistent with expectations described across CSU and national roles.
  • Experience working effectively with faculty, deans, and academic departments in a shared governance environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead organizational change and implement institution-wide initiatives
  • Strong commitment to equity-minded advising and closing equity gaps

Responsibilities

  • Provide long-range vision and strategic leadership for a centralized, campus-wide undergraduate academic advising system aligned with national best practices and institutional priorities.
  • Develop and administer campus-wide advising standards, policies, and procedures in alignment with CSU system requirements and University goals.
  • Lead the design and implementation of an equity-minded advising framework addressing the needs of diverse and high-impact student populations, including historically underserved and at-risk students.
  • Lead the University's implementation of the CSU Student Success Framework, ensuring integration with advising structures, degree pathways, retention, and graduation strategies.
  • Serve as the principal advising leader within Enrollment Management, collaborating with the Registrar and academic partners on degree progress, academic standing, and graduation processes.
  • Provide executive leadership, supervision, and performance management for multiple advising and student success units, including the Advising & Success Center (ASC), Graduation Advisors and Evaluator, and the Director of Student Support Systems.
  • Manage the development and ongoing administration of a campus-wide advising model, ensuring operational and conceptual integration across advising units and Enrollment Management functions.
  • Ensure delivery of high-quality advising services across all undergraduate student cohorts by establishing expectations for training, onboarding, coaching, and continuous professional development.
  • Establish and enforce campus-wide standards for advisor caseload management, student outreach, appointment practices, and advising documentation to ensure consistency, compliance, and effectiveness across units.
  • Oversee the strategic, campus-wide use of advising technologies and student success platforms (e.g., EAB Navigate, Degree Audit tools, PeopleSoft) that support predictive analytics and advising optimization.
  • Analyze advising, persistence, retention, and graduation data to inform program enhancements and recommend policy or procedural changes with institutional impact.
  • Manage assessment of advising services, identifying trends, inequities, and opportunities for systemic improvement across advising units.
  • Coordinate with Institutional Research and Information Technology to design and implement dashboards and data tools that support advising effectiveness and degree progress monitoring.
  • Serve as the primary advising liaison between Enrollment Management and academic colleges, ensuring alignment of advising practices with institutional priorities.
  • Collaborate with deans, department chairs, and faculty advisors to ensure consistency in advising practices aligned with curricular pathways and degree requirements.
  • Partner with Student Affairs, basic needs programs, and student support units to integrate academic advising within a holistic student support model.
  • Represent advising on campus committees and initiatives focused on student success, retention, persistence, and equity.
  • Ensure academic advising practices comply with CSU policies, campus academic regulations, FERPA, and degree completion standards.
  • Contribute to the development and administration of academic policies related to change of major, academic standing, appeals, petitions, and graduation requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Registrar and Enrollment Services to implement academic policies, align catalog requirements, and maintain effective degree progress workflows.
  • Manage budgets, staffing structures, and operational priorities for all supervised advising and student success units.
  • May be required to obtain additional training and/or certification as part of professional development, based on department and/or campus needs, to stay current with industry standards.
  • At the direction of appropriate administrator, may provide support to other areas as needed.
