About The Position

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Director of Advising, Division of Health Sciences Advising Center, UNLV Student Academic Success [R0150764] ROLE of the POSITION The Director of the Division of Health Sciences Advising Center (Director) provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for UNLV’s largest academic advising center, serving the Schools of Integrated Health Sciences (IHS), Nursing (SoN), and Public Health (PH). This center is distinct from all others on campus – supporting the university’s most complex student population and the largest team of professional advisors. The Director leads a dynamic, student-centered unit responsible for delivering high-quality academic advising, student success initiatives, and proactive advising strategies that directly impact retention, progression, and completion across all three schools. This role requires extensive coordination with academic and administrative partners in each school to ensure advising services align with evolving program & accreditation requirements and institutional goals. The Director will also be responsible for ensuring support for pre-nursing students to best align with SoN holistic application process. The Director oversees all aspects of advising operations, including: Leadership and Supervision: Guiding, developing, and evaluating a large team of professional advisors and support staff; fostering a collaborative & supportive culture focused on student success. Strategic Management: Establishing unit policies and ensuring the center’s structure and processes meet the needs of a diverse and high-demand student population. Student Support and Advising: Providing direct advising to undergraduate and prospective students as needed; ensuring consistent application of advising policies and degree requirements. Partnership and Advocacy: Representing the Advising Center and the Division of Health Sciences at university-level committees and events; advocating for the unique needs of health sciences students and programs. Curriculum and Policy Collaboration: Partnering with faculty and administration in the Schools of Integrated Health Sciences, Nursing, and Public Health to align advising practices with curricular changes, accreditation requirements, and student success priorities. This leadership position requires a visionary, student-centered professional who can balance administrative oversight with strategic innovation, ensuring that the Division of Health Sciences Advising Center continues to serve as a model of excellence and collaboration across UNLV. All positions in Academic Affairs contribute to our core mission: to increase enrollment and promote equitable student success. This position shall collaborate with the Executive Director of Undergraduate Advising to set annual goals that align with Top Tier initiatives and SVPAA mission and identify and track core metrics to assess success. Like all AA leaders, this position plays a crucial role in enrollment growth, removing barriers to student success, ensuring inclusive and equitable access to resources, working to eliminate achievement gaps, and providing outstanding services and support to students across the lifecycle. By addressing systemic obstacles and implementing strategic services, programs, and support, this position will meaningfully contribute to the institution's commitment to expand access, grow enrollment, and promote career-ready student success that leads to timely graduation. Requirements

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA)
  • five years of professional work experience in academic advising
  • five years supervisory experience with demonstrated experience supervising, mentoring, and developing professional staff in a collaborative and high-volume advising environment.
  • Credentials must be obtained prior to the employment start date.

Nice To Haves

  • at least seven years of professional work experience in an academic advising leadership position
  • experience working with multiple deans/college leadership positions
  • experience particularly as related to undergraduate advising, undergraduate education; student success, advising, traditional and;
  • first year experience and gen-ed design.
