Sunbit is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Sr. Director of Financial Reporting to join our growing accounting team. This critical role will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of external reporting. In this position you will ensure that effective financial controls, policies, and procedures are established and applied to provide the company with high quality, compliant external financial reporting. This highly visible role offers a unique opportunity to meaningfully shape the future of our financial operations. The ideal candidate will have expertise in technical accounting and a deep understanding of SEC regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or economics
  • Certified Public Accountant with in-depth knowledge of US GAAP
  • 12+ years of progressive technical accounting and reporting experience, including auditing experience with a major public accounting firm and at least 3+ years of SEC reporting experience.
  • Pre-IPO/private company experience is essential, with demonstrated success in building scalable reporting and compliance processes.
  • Fintech, consumer finance, or financial institution industry experience
  • Strong background in SEC reporting, including preparation of public company filings (10-Ks, 10-Qs, 8-Ks) and registration statements (S-1)
  • Demonstrated ability to research, interpret, and apply complex technical accounting standards.
  • Thorough knowledge of fair value accounting principles and methodologies and disclosure requirements
  • Experience in SOX control execution/documentation
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with the CECL accounting standard is a plus.
  • Experience with ERP systems (such as NetSuite) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the compilation of all financial statements (monthly, quarterly, and annual), footnotes, management discussion and analysis and all other finance components of external reporting, as applicable.
  • Subject matter expert on US GAAP and SEC regulations for the preparation and filing of financial statements and SEC reports for public companies.
  • Lead and manage the preparation and review of SEC reports, including 10-K, 10-Q, and other required disclosures.
  • Prepare technical accounting memos and analysis as needed.
  • Interpret and implement new technical accounting standards and assess their impact on the company's financial statements.
  • Oversee the fair value accounting processes, ensuring accurate and compliant valuations of financial instruments and other assets.
  • Work with external auditors on requests for assistance; prepare schedules, as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain robust internal controls over financial reporting, with a focus on SOX 404 compliance.
  • Implement a dedicated software platform for financial and SEC reporting.
  • Build, manage and mentor a team of financial reporting professionals.
  • Drive collaborative and proactive relationships with key stakeholders, including key constituents such as FP&A, Capital Markets, Legal & Compliance, and Data departments.
