This role is part of Blue Origin corporate functions, providing centralized support across Blue Origin business unit teams, functions, and locations. Blue Origin is seeking a Senior Director of Finance to lead transformative initiatives across total cost of ownership (TCO), cost management, AI implementation within Finance, and high-impact special projects. This leader will serve as a strategic partner to the VP of Finance and cross-functional executives, driving financial rigor, operational efficiency, and innovation across the enterprise. This role requires a seasoned finance executive who combines deep financial acumen with a forward-thinking mindset—someone who can build frameworks from the ground up, influence at the highest levels of the organization, and harness emerging technologies (including AI and machine learning) to modernize financial operations and decision-making.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 15+ years of progressive finance experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role (Director level or above).
  • Deep expertise in cost management, total cost of ownership modeling, or financial planning and analysis in a complex manufacturing, aerospace, or technology environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading AI, automation, or advanced analytics initiatives within a finance function.
  • Proven ability to build frameworks, teams, and processes from the ground up in fast-paced, high-growth environments.
  • Exceptional executive presence and ability to influence and communicate effectively with C-suite and VP-level stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to synthesize complex data into clear, actionable insights.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA or advanced degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or other capital-intensive industries.
  • Familiarity with government contracting, FAR/DFAR compliance, and program finance in a defense or space context.
  • Hands-on experience with AI/ML tools and platforms (e.g., Python, cloud-based AI services, enterprise analytics platforms).
  • CPA, CMA, or CFA designation.
  • Experience supporting programs through full lifecycle: development, production, and operations.
  • Track record of delivering measurable cost savings or efficiency improvements at enterprise scale.

Responsibilities

  • Total Cost of Ownership and Cost Management Design, implement, and continuously refine a comprehensive TCO framework spanning hardware, software, infrastructure, manufacturing, supply chain, launch operations, and sustainment across Blue Origin's programs.
  • Lead enterprise-wide cost management strategy, including cost reduction initiatives, spend analytics, and margin improvement programs.
  • Build and maintain robust cost models that enable scenario planning, sensitivity analysis, and data-driven resource allocation.
  • Partner with FP&A, Accounting, Procurement, and Operations to embed cost discipline into planning cycles, budgeting processes, and program reviews.
  • Develop KPIs, dashboards, and reporting mechanisms that provide real-time visibility into cost performance and trends.
  • Identify structural cost inefficiencies and lead cross-functional teams to implement sustainable solutions.
  • Special Projects: Lead high-priority, cross-functional finance initiatives as directed by the VP of Finance, including but not limited to: new program financial architecture, strategic investments analysis, organizational transformation, and process re-engineering.
  • Serve as the Finance organization's champion for artificial intelligence and advanced analytics adoption.
  • Provide executive-level analysis and recommendations on complex, ambiguous business challenges.
  • Stand up project teams, establish governance structures, and drive execution with pace and precision.
