The Office of Federal Relations advocates on behalf of the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Washington, DC. Our office works to advance the university’s interests and serves as a liaison to the federal government. Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for University Relations, the Senior Director of Federal Relations will provide leadership and oversight to the Office of Federal Relations and direct supervision to the Director of Federal Relations. The Senior Director will oversee the office’s development of UW-Madison’s federal agenda, in consultation with, and with direction from university leadership. The Senior Director will work with the Director of Federal Relations to monitor federal legislative and executive activity to assess potential implications and opportunities for the university. Primary duties include, but are not limited to: Track federal activity related to higher education policy and maintaining an in-depth knowledge of national higher education issues. Prepare and implement annual appropriations strategy for UW-Madison. Provide a positive, high-profile presence to the campus community and federal stakeholders to further support how legislators and key government officials perceive the university. Develop and maintain relationships with campus faculty and staff, including colleagues in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, the Office of University Relations, school/college leadership, and other campus stakeholders. Build and maintain working relationships with members of Congress and Congressional staff; Congressional committees and caucuses; agency, business and industry leadership, and personnel; as well as higher education associations and professional societies
